I stated the Summoner lore from the Final Fantasy A Realm Reborn website and if you paid attention to the Summoner job quest cut scenes you'd realize that the Summoner doesn't summon in the same way the beast tribes using corrupted Aether they draw out a portion of the Primal's power captured in a Aether crystal which is the Egi. Now it is implied in the story line that the Summoner can draw on more of the primal's power as they resurrect more of the lost art of the Allagan Summoner and summon the primals.
Garuda is used for two reasons, none of which you stated: 1) She is ranged and 2) Contagion.Originally Posted by Akiza
The only reason Garuda is used everywhere is because of the way the Egi system was implemented and its because the Egis at their core look and should function as elementals. The Egis should use elemental based attack instead of what they have now and have 8 abilities.
Do you even play this game ?
A handful =/= a lot. The amount of complaints I've ever seen about their looks can be counted on one hand.Originally Posted by Akiza
That's funny because a lot of people were complaining about the look of the Egis since Square provided the artwork for them and I'm sure in game there are a lot of Summoners's still complaining about the look of the Egis. There are only a handful of players that like the appearance of the Egis.
Point given. I was merely referencing since the game has launched and people actually played the job.
Exactly. And I thought the whole thing was pretty obvious as well.It is amusing because the SMN story itself goes off to explain why a Summoner only grasp an aspect of the power. TO obtain more and attempt to control a more powerful egi/version of the primal is dangerous and the power corrupts the user which was the whole point of the Summoner story. it showcased another summoner that had a lust for power and it corrupted him.

People forget very easily. We originally thought and hoped we could summon huge primals and defeat FATEs. But that is either not happening or may come later in some form or another. I don't know people are so hostile to these kind of ideas. /shrug
Summoner's Lore http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/pr/game/#!/jobs/content
The beast tribes of Eorzea worship and summon forth beings known as primals, among which are Ifrit, Garuda, and Titan. Yet what is a god to one man is a demon to another, for the city-states of Eorzea see these beings as a grave threat to their collective survival.
In times immemorial, there lived mages who had not only the power to summon the primals, but also the means to transmute the primals' essences, thus binding them to their will. Known simply as summoners, the existence of these men and women and their arcane art have been all but lost to the ages.
Based on Square Enix own lore from the Final Fantasy XIV A Realm Reborn pr page a single Summoner has the power to summon primals as well as Egis.
And the result of that is the Egi. How hard is that to comprehend ?Summoner's Lore http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/pr/game/#!/jobs/content

The other Summoner Tristen Nightflicker killed his own brother after Ifrit tempered him thus driving him insane. So Tristan aka The Dark Summoner made a deal with the Ascians to gain more power so he could get revenge on Ifrit as well as all other primals by destroying the beasts tribes now if you paid attention to the story then you'd realize that it was the Dark Summoner's drive for revenge and lust for power that allowed him to cross any morale boundary which is what corrupted. Unless we become corrupt and go to the dark side story wise giving the Summoner more of the primal's power to control a more powerful egi version of the primal wouldn't do anything. It is amusing because the SMN story itself goes off to explain why a Summoner only grasp an aspect of the power.
