Thaumaturge Limit Break on Game Pad

I'm using a PC with an xbox 360 controller, but I imagine this case is the same for ps3 players.

    1. Playing with a controller, how do I initially activate my limit break? The 2 things that occurred to me was either hold left trigger and tap left on d-pad (this is where it is set on my hot bar) OR hold left trigger and hold left on d-pad.

    2. Once I get the dark circle to show up and I have to aim limit break, what moves it around the screen? Left joystick? Right joystick?

    3. Finally, when the circle is aimed where I want it to be, how do I confirm and let loose my limit break?

Since limit breaks are available for only a short time span and playing with something like this in the middle of a boss battle isn't very party friendly, I'd like to be clear on how utilize THM limit break.

I'm not against using my mouse to use my limit break, so for those of you playing on PC it would be very helpful if you could please share how to execute THM's limit break using a mouse as well.

The way it works on PS3(and you should have the option on PC to step up for game pad layout on the hot bar. if not, lame.), is the hot bar contains 16 slots. Holding L2 gives you access to left 8, R2 is the right 8. While holding either one, you can use a spell by hiting any of the 8 prominent face buttons(Sq, Tri, Cir, X, d-pad), each one is obviously the hot key for that spell. Aiming your limit should be linked to the right analog stick(as left is for movement).

While the 360 has that stupid bass ackwards left analog d-pad switch, it should still work the same. As long as you have everything in your controls set up to run off a game pad, it should work as described.

i also use PC with my gamepad
i haven't level my THM yet but according to your description, i think it's similar to casting some aoe spells/item on ground, isn't it?

    1. you have to set the limit break shortcut to your cross-hotbar first, then activate as fit
    2. use right stick to move the target area
    3. use X to unleash

A LS mate of mine is also having an issue triggering the BLM LB on controller. He's using the normal AoE skills just fine, the LB is the only problem. Would like to hear how to get it working!

@Texhnolyze : Thank you! I haven't acquired any AoE/On Ground skills yet, but it looks like the BLM freeze ability will be that way and I'm looking forward to playing with it.

@Taika : One thing I noticed when I activate limit break from my hot bar is it seems to rapid press the button. I'll play with it and report back my findings.

@Yachi : Thanks you. I admit, when I first tried to unleash my limit break, I was pushing the limit break button again instead of the A button.

I'll report back to this thread when I'm 100% sure I'm able to execute my limit break successfully. So looking forward to casting meteor on an unsuspecting boss.

Fixed it for you. If you didn't know our's is an AOE limit break, so ideally you would have a melee use their's if it is intended to just hit the boss, use your's if it is intended to hit more than one target. Most boss fights have an add phase, so if you are lacking in a melee, it very rarely would get "wasted" on just the boss.

At 5400 potency for lvl 3 Meteor, seems like it would be good for single target as well. Even SE's video release on limit breaks shows a BLM casting Meteor on a single boss.

Nope, 60% of the damage... if you are hitting single target you just lost 40% of the damage if a melee is available. If a melee isn't available do you have an add spawn? if so, use it there. As a last resort, use it on the boss, single target. However, on that note, it is INSTANTLY better (assuming adds have enough health to eat the full hit and not be severe overkill) to use the caster limit break, since it will do more overall damage when you have 2 or more adds.

    Final Heaven
Final Heaven is the level 3 limit break for damage dealers. It executes a single target attack with potency of 9000.
    Meteor
Meteor is the level 3 limit break for casters. It delivers an area of effect attack with potency of 5400.

Very educational. Thanks for the info. I had no idea final heaven had 9000 potency.
