Is there a point to having multiple characters?

I've been trying to think of a benefit, but can't come up with anything. Especially considering you can't mail items/gil to your alts.

I have my legacy character on Excalibur and a new character on Gilgamesh.

Friends across two servers, so yes there can be reasons.

It'd be nice to send a bit of gil from my legacy character, but it really isn't that big of a deal to me seeing as I can just earn the money on the new character.
