i play starcraft 2 as a hobby.. the lag from different regions is more determined by the route that the information takes around the world as the amount of information being sent is not much compared to the bandwidth that is available these days with current internet speeds (i am in adelaide).. I know that MMORPGs generate a heck of a lot more information than a RTS BUT i would say that the route the information takes around the world is still more important than the bandwidth..

Best thing you can do is do a netstat while connected to each server, log the IP and do a traceroute to each. The more hops you have to travel to get to the destination, usually the more latency you'll have.

Geographically speaking though, yeah it's weird AU doesn't have a direct link to Japan.
Thanks for the reply. Lol I have no idea of what a netstat etc is and i am not sure i could do that on PS3. If someone on PC could do it (and compare to EU) then that would be interesting to see.

you can't see your latency by looking at arrstatus nor the connection on the character screen
arrstatus latency is based on the site's location, not yours

if you want to check your latency, check your resource monitor
start > type "resource monitor" > netword > tcp connections
look for ffixv.exe, that's your exact latency
