Australian yet JP server connection not as good as UE server?

Hi

I am in Western Australia (same time as JP). When I created my character I thought well i am def closer to JP servers so i joined JP.

However when I have looked at EU/NA servers during various log in issues I noticed that EU server connection was Excellent. JP is only ever Good (maybe that is why i have some lag at times).

As I am def not an IT person and these forums seem full of them , can some one explain how that is so.

Hi. Thanks for that.

However it does not really help as it does not tell me from my house . It does tell me relative to other JP servers etc though which ones are under load....when up.

In addition it does not really answer the question of why the servers in Canada give me a better connection than the JP servers which are so much closer.

depending on which service provider your with as well maybe? i know my connection is better to the us/eu servers than the jp ones , as im with telstra , yet people with internode for eg... get great connections to jp servers.

The only problem with rolling on a server further from your timezone is that it would be harder for you to join a FC that is active. It's easier when you're on a server when everyone is roughly on the same time, but it's dead confusing when you have to use a time zone converter just to find out when the raid is! Also it's impossible to do raiding if you're on a server where they are 16 hours behind you (US) and you're working on the time they schedule the raid .

Yea i am with Telstra.....who being the biggest in Australia (i think) would not have issues with speed to JP.

I have noticed lag quite a few times ie gear taking a while to change. not getting out of AOE quick enough (perhaps i get the signs too late).

Just plain weird. Guess if it stay like that I will have to look at changing down the track.

there are alot of aussies on Behemoth server as well. for me it was a lower ping than jp server and still had an oceanic community.

im australian aswell but QLD (optus provider) i chose odin server rarely have lag there, only time really is in the crowded big boss fates but sayin that its rare..

It's all about how the route is calculated from you to the game servers. For some odd reason Australia could take some weird out of the way route to get to Japan. (like AU > Los Angeles > Tokyo)

Best thing you can do is do a netstat while connected to each server, log the IP and do a traceroute to each. The more hops you have to travel to get to the destination, usually the more latency you'll have.

Geographically speaking though, yeah it's weird AU doesn't have a direct link to Japan.
