No. I'm a Legacy player, I have well over a million gil, I sustain myself via the market and by hoarding gil, and I don't think this is the right thing to do at all.

It definitely makes life more difficult for new players, especially on Legacy servers with pre-inflated prices, which is not healthy for the game.

That being said, the game is only little more than two weeks old - I do think Square Enix will tackle this (but at a glacial pace) - this encourages me to hoard gil for the next three months (until patch 2.1) because I know that its future value will only increase. I'd like to think I'm already doing my best for the economy by selling goods at what I think are fair trade prices (comparable to NPCs), but it's not like there's a civic award for being a model citizen.
