FATEs, guildleves, and dungeons produce a tremendous amount of gil into the economy. You make far more per day doing them than you spend on repairs and the like.

People claiming to lose 2500g to repairs in crappy low lvl gear after 1 dungeon are full of shit. In blues and high lvl greens at lvl 50, it barely costs that much when my gear is completely broken after a good run of FATE grinds.

I think the overall economy will be just fine. I can complete leves at 40-50 with HQ crafts for 3-5k per turn-in (the ones you chose to turn in multiple times help). Battlecraft players have the initial outrageous amount of gil from completing quests and leveling up, soon they will have dailies as well. The only reason some people might currently feel broke is because they are spending all their gil on ridiculously overpriced mats for their relic and AF stuff..it's just a bad time to be a battlecraft player and a good time to be a tradecraft player.

For every person with less than 50k there is probably another with over 250k. All that money had to come from somewhere. It's clear that in the past week, money has been poured into the game in massive quantities.

This is true. But its a one time infusion. On the flip side, everyone on the server is likely to teleport from one city to the next at least once. Likely far more times than once. Its, what...? 500gil to teleport from one city to the next? thats 2,500,000 gil removed from the economy using your figures. That adds up faster. The problem is, quests (namely those that award allagan coins) are a large source of income. They are a one time infusion though. A given quest can only be undertaken once per character. Teleports arent. Repairs arent.

Convert the gear you get into materia and bam! Profit. Plus a little change in your pocket.

Didn't mean to rhyme on that last part... Left it in cause it made me chuckle... lol
Where are you going to sell that Materia? The AH? That's a gil loss, not a gain. ANY USE OF THE AH IS A GIL LOSS, NOT A GAIN.

I am seeing the same thing OP, I hit level 50 and began farming tokens for my darklight gear, and my money went from 100k ish down to 15k, costing me at least 1k per run to repair. I've tried explaining to people as well, but they keep saying everything is fine.

They will see their money is coming from limited quests that are going to run out soon enough.
Till then im just leveling my low level classes as all that stuff is pretty cheap.

Telling people to go after crafting is not an answer, i'm sure you all know the majority of players in mmo's do not craft, nor want to. Telling people to do something they don't like to do will only drive players away and hurt the game.
Stop and think for a little while peoople

So once again people are missing the point of economy vs personal wealth. I have gsm 50 / bsm 50 / mining 50 and i've made 100k in a day from just making +1 ingots and whatnot but that's beside the point. The underlying issue is everyone is going to go from 1-50 and get roughly 200k. However after the income swell, your income severely depletes. So once the economy normalizes will prices be very low on all items and new players will be rich? I understand the game just came out so i'll have to play much more to finish up my analysis but I personally feel like as you level up more jobs including crafts you should be able to earn more then we are currently earning. My biggest complaint is everything sells to npc's for 1-5 gil. I made a sustainable income in 1.0 from selling silver ingots for 300ish gil a piece. I just want to see how the economy is in 6 months, thats when i think the real price values of things will be present.

Still seems to be a loss of the understanding between making gil and creating gil.

Transactions on the AH just shuffles gil from one person to another.

Doing quests/fates creates gil. But quests are one time uses and fates give less gil than they do seals.
