Position Requirements -- fun or frustrating?

For me, its a fun idea in concept. It adds an extra layer of complexity to the battle system and helps beef up the skill cap for melee classes.

However, in practice, it becomes frustrating because every creature randomly spins, drops red zones, or is just flat out impossible to get into position on. The tolerance of Flank vs back seems off at times as well (I suppose due to latency).

I'm not asking for positional combat to be removed. I would just like it if the "random spin" spells didn't change a creature's orientation. So even though Hydra is constantly turning to spit Fire/Ice, the game wouldn't recognize his orientation as changed and that could be communicated by having its reticle staying pointed the proper direction.

i love it, it adds that little bit of unpredictability to your rotation when a mob decides to move or swivel around. it can be a little irritating but at the same time it switches things up a bit, gives you a reason to have to interrupt your rinse and repeat DPS rotation.

Yeah as a pugilist it's pretty critical to be getting position spot on to be dealing decent damage but it's so hit and miss (excuse the pun) that I have more chance of getting correct position by randomly circling my target rather then trying to actually position off of the guides etc. Some people suggest using the training dummys around the place for fine tuning but when you have to do it every logon it gets a bit annoying. The concept is great but just falls a little short at the moment.

Mayhaps the ability to sacrifice the occasional position bonus for a constant mini-crit would be a nice solution for those having trouble?

You are bad and you should feel bad. This game is easy enough as it is.

    Everything is frustrating.

Then you learn it and it becomes fun.

No offense dude, but we can see your armory and you're really in no position to judge on game difficulty.

Strategic. In a hectic fight, good positioning demonstrates the weak to the great players. I like it.

I've had no issues and the benefits to attacking from behind is one of the major reasons why I chose PGL/MNK.

No issues here (sorry care-bears) :3

Playing Lancer, currently a Dragoon. I have never had issues with positioning any of my positional attacks. (Currently 2 back-stabs and 1 move that makes ALL flanking attacks do more damage)

If a mob spins or turns then i have to adapt to my enemies position as I SHOULD. Positional combat will obviously be more effective in a group environment. Abilities still do damage when out of position, but not as much, so you aren't "useless" if you have to fight them.

I love this feature about the game. The difficulty of combat and content is why a lot of people play this game. You are rewarded for being in position with extra damage above the abilities 'base' damage. There is no penalty for being out of position, only extra damage if you are. At least that's how I see it <3

Fun. I like it both for the value of being able to employ it to make stuff die faster, or to get bonuses off. Lancers HAVE to use their Heavy Thrust from the side to get the damage boost, so it also shows you who cares about playing their class in a group. Pugilists can stand only to the side, or only to the back, but the added boosts/effects only kick in when side matching, and that's also an idiot check. Though ... I don't always do this on trash, I do do this on every boss whenever possible, even high-movement fights.
