They have every color variant implemented as a separate item and given a different texture. What they should have done is to use a base (white?) texture and apply shaders instead - This we will probably see in 2.0 so there is no point complaining about coloring now.
Yeah, that's also something that was bugging me since launch - how each color is its own unique item with a unique name. It seems like it just restricts customization when it's like that.

Why have it simple, when you can have it complicated, right? /facepalm
Whenever I clap for SE making a good step towards making the game more user friendly and fun in general (don't confuse with blatant dumbing it down), they take two steps in the wrong direction.

This has got to be the most unnecessarily complicated dye system I have ever seen (and yes, I'm counting the really awful low-fi f2p grind MMOs).
For heaven's sake, ditch the dye-tied attributes on items (we have materia for that already) and make it simple and accessible to anyone to use on already crafted items. Not everything in FFXIV has to be different than every other game out there.... -___-

User friendly before "overly inventive", please!

Okay, let's try this again. This is what the announcement is saying:

Currently some gear becomes class specific and gains different attributes when dyed. In some cases, it's only a specific color that triggers this, so there is only one alternate version. This behavior will be removed. Dyeing will no longer create an alternate version of the same piece of gear. Dyeing will only change color. Items that have only one alternate version and that have gained stat or class changes will have these changes removed. In the future, to get this alternate version of the armor with the stat change, you'll have to create it from a recipe separate from the dyeing process. Items will no longer gain class changes from dyeing or crafting.

Currently some gear can gain stat and class changes through multiple colors. This has created multiple alternate versions of the same item. This behavior will be removed. From now on, dyeing a piece of gear will only change the color and will not change its stats or equip requirements. Multiple versions of gear with different attributes will be renamed to entirely new and separate pieces of gear. In the future, to create these new versions with different attributes, you'll have to do so through a crafting recipe. Then you can dye the resulting piece of armor however you want.

So to sum up again, after the change dyes won't affect attributes or class requirements anymore, and the stat and class changes will be removed from gear that only have only one alternate version. Gear that currently has multiple versions due to stat changes will see each piece of gear with a stat change renamed into a new separate piece of gear. These alternate versions will have new, separate recipes that don't rely on dyes. Dyes can then be used on the normal gear or the stat enhanced gear to change them to whatever color you like. There will still be some exceptions.

at what point in the dev post does it say anything about what will happen with current gear, either the name will remain meaning you lose stats or it switches over to the gear (stat boost) (colour). But it doesnt say, hence the question.

They keep taking the RPG out of this game.

Soon we will be jumping, trying to avoid spikes on the ground.

    YES!!
idk what happens to the current gear , honestly I am sure they have a way to make it all work out.

This is brilliant and a huge improvement!

Dyes for preferance in appearance is truly the way it should be , without losing an option to add stats after, is great !
Cant wait SE and good job!!

    i give this decision a +1 Moogle rating ^^

They are adding an "A" actually - ARPG = Action RPG.

It does seem a trend with SE that to get to the best idea they have to fumble through 10 complicated ones first.
