^ Agree with you 100%, its this reason that all items should be made and sold/bough undyed and then let the player customise them via an NPC, the combinations could be really nice.

It simplifies the crafting process massively, removes the need for dyed materials and everybody wins.

Dyes and Paints should just be taken out of the finished item crafting process completely. Every item should have a base color its crafted in. Then...
    • Alchemists make dye pots that can be sold to players to change the color of gear
    • NPC added into game that does the same thing but with a smaller selection of colors and is more expensive {Ding! OMG the game has a money sink!)
    • When changing the color of your gear a UI pops up and shows you a preview of what the color is going to do to your gear. You need to confirm the change which consumes the dye.
    • You can change your gear color again simply by applying a new dye.
    • This system would also allow you to change haircolor, paint and tribal pattern colors.

    Benefits
    • Rescues inventory space from the inventory management minigame
    • Adds a friggin money sink to game, what are there.. 2 right now?
    • Gives Alchemists a useful consumable item (Almost no one buys potions and ethers)
    • Gives players more customization over their appearance.

This would be very cool. Can we get our fav mod to present these ideas to the Devs?

They forward most ideas to the devs, all you gotta do is just wait to see if there's a response. Otherwise they'd just be spamming "I sent this idea to the devs, wait for a response" all day long and that would clutter up the dev tracker.

    And what do we have?
Lots of customization to make our characters look like WE want them to.
More options for people who want nothing to do with crafters.
More options for crafters to participate in the economy.
Simpler recipes that increase the number of finished products while simultaneously reducing inventory load
    Gil sinks
Yes, these are all positive aspects for the game, in my opinion. Anything that will help foster player creativity and customization is usually good.

As long as certain colors are kept rare and/or hard to acquire, it will help to increase the psycological weight of certain items and therefore help retain their perceived value.

I love all these ideas. The way I see it, like most everyone, I like the idea of changing it so that dye is applied to finish undyed cloth/straps/leathers/etc. after the fact.

I think that allowing NPCs to do pre-defined colors on finished items only is a great idea. Say, allow them to use the pre-set color pallets that are currently in the game now.

I look at that and see a relatively minor change (in the grand scheme of things) that provides solutions to multiple issues. IMO, its a win-win plan!

That is one thing I've always hated about XIV's crafting system, is that there has been no way whatsoever to dye an item post-craft.

Yes, this dyeing system is a little too detailed from needing to do it in the earliest stages of a multi-mat synth. It reminds me of a time I tried to craft a bone staff in the early stages of the game. Thinking I could use any mat color of that type, I tried the synth with a simple plain sheep strap to find it had to be the grey colored strap. It was then I realized that the fabled "customization of gear" wasn't really customizable, if you wanted a certain color gear, you had to have specific colors on the materials needed.

I'm all for this system of needing the dyes for the finished product of the synth.

We do know that there are many color dying materials that can take up the majority of your inventory and the dev. team is planning to improve the process of color dyeing. These changes alongside the adjustments to recipes should make your inventories very happy!

Nice! Streamlining recipes and reducing item redundancy is a good thing!

Very welcome news, indeed. No rush, of course. There are bigger fish to fry. But acknowledgement by the Team and awareness that an adjustment is coming on this front is appreciated.
