I am not paying much attention to people being silly. I've had a copperbell mines run where both dps kept calling me a bad tank, and I know I probably didn't do everything perfectly (I'm relatively new to tanking). I also know that THEY sucked since they did my standart job. a dps does not run in first. a dps does not keep attacking when they have the aggro. a dps does not kite the boss away from the tank.
I'm not perfect, but I'm no idiot. I figure out what I did wrong without people like THAT telling me I suck.
if all else fails I join a good linkshell/free company that loves me on my whitemage or bard, and willing to be patient if I ever decide to 'seriously' tank

but back to the topic and 'idiots'. I tend to be friendly when someone doesn't know what's going on. I usually try to ignore meanies and hope my 'good example' rubs off on them. if it doesn't then I hope I never see them again and they stop playing so they can't be mean to others who get discouraged by their behaviour.

That's seriously what it all boils down to, when we get right to it. I hate how some people think their shit doesn't stink, because they may have played "so and so" game for "so and so" amount of time, and are "the best at what they do". I love it when somebody like the OP comes in and sticks it to the "holier than thous" of the gaming world.

I do somewhat similar things too when a DPS does not listen to basic mechanics and purposely tries to get everyone killed in a party.

I simply don't heal the person and let him die and continue without issues.

It works best in other MMOs where re-spawning does not take you back to the entrance of the dungeon, but town.

Well done sir. Well done. I never see a reason why anyone needs to be an asshole in an MMO. It's not even PvP-oriented. You can't exactly inspire teamwork by badmouthing someone, especially before the start of an event. Was doing the lvl 49 duty (the one after Garuda) earlier, we failed a couple of times because only a few players knew the fight. The healer started cussing and blaming the 2nd tank for every little mistake and caused the party to disband. Queued up again and got the same guy as the off tank and downed the event on the first try. Basically, just give everyone the benefit of the doubt, and if you don't like them, just courteously leave. No harm done.

Funnily enough I got insulted by the main tank on Ifrit hard last night! He started insulting people when they died and I asked him to stop, pointing out that it's not going to help anyone - which once we won made me public enemy #1 of course and I got a tirade about being a crap player and all that even though *I* had to scrape *him* up off the floor at the end XD

That's not acceptable. But what's also not acceptable is the total silence from everyone else. Everyone who keeps quiet when someone goes off on a rant for no reason is giving these people permission to behave like morons - maybe you don't mind, or maybe it's not directed at you - but the next time they do it they might be attacking someone who does, and that means we end up with one more bully in the DF queue and one less enthusiastic learner.

That's amazing. Kids like that really irriate me, the Ifrit fight is SO easy compared to the videos I watched for 1.0.

I was healing at Cutter's Edge. It was my first run in that dungeon and we had about 25 minutes to fight the last boss. Before we ran in I reminded the group that this was my first go, but no one stopped to explain the blue an purple deal. Needless to say we wiped. Before we went in again the monk explained how the blue/purple works so we headed in. We made it very far, but ultimately the eye targeted me and I had no idea what to do. We wiped again. The tank, who I will not mention by name because I'm hoping she was just having a bad go, called me retarded and said we were going to lose because of me. I wanted to just stand there on the last go and watch her die, but I healed away and we won with 2 minutes left. If you find yourself in dungeons with people who say: This is my 1st go. Educate them! Help them out. The game is a week old for crying out loud! Not everyone plays night and day.

I did my very first Ifrit run last night. I asked first thing if there were any tips that I might need to know as a lancer, and no one said anything. So we are fighting and everything is going fine, then suddenly I see "OMFG KILL THE NAIL!!!!!" about ten different ways in the chat log. Next thing I know we're all dead. So the entire party begins trashing me for not killing the nail that I didn't even see (because it spawned on the other side of Ifrit where I couldn't see it), and after a few seconds, it gets pretty nasty. Instead of politely telling me what I did wrong, they chose to insult me. So what did I do? I went and made a corned beef sandwich. I sat there for 15 minutes and watched them alternate between insulting me further, and trying to beat Ifrit without me. Then it dawned on me: they can't kick me. I can sit here for as long as I like, and there's NOTHING they can do about it except re-queue in the Duty Finder. I was still laughing this morning.

Hell I even enjoy tanking with the overzealous DPSer's. First rule I give to healers, if they DPS draws aggro, don't heal them. They have to stop so I can get aggro back, or pay the price.
Oh yeah.... Had that happening couple of nights ago where I was healing in Tara Tam. The archer would start on the mobs before the tank did. I finally just let the archer die when I had to choose between the tank or the archer.
