So you are trying to tell me that it's *near impossible* to take server data for what *might* have been a less popular MMO and scale the requirements upward? Even new MMO companies can do this.

Yea if I was a completely incompetent Sales Manager working for a completely incompetent MMO company, then maybe I would let a month's worth of sales data suddenly land in my face, at which point I would do what SE has done, and say, "maybe we should upgrade our servers now". All stupidity aside, you can see sales data in real time, believe it or not. So there is no reason why they shouldn't have been increasing server capacity every step of the way.

I quit reading at "Group 2. You wasn't" You wasn't? YOU WASN'T? What is this? I don't even.

Just kidding. Hehe. Your post is very good and I read it all, but I still don't think it's right to say numbers without knowing exactly. No one here, well not anyone who deals with the monies from square, will really ever know exactly. They could be making 20. They could be making 30. Or even 15. Possibly 18 dollars and 52 cents. Did you add all that those 52 cents in there? Who knows how many thousands of dollars extra that is. Also "if the issue persists then post away" I feel is slightly off. I'm sure people do. They log in one day and the issue persists so they may complain about it the next day. I don't feel as though 1 person should be able to say "Ok this is said problem. You have these choices. Pick one and if you're still not happy AND its not working then you have permission to complain about it tomorrow." Why make a forum at all then when they could be like "Ok guise. So and so problem has appeared now we are giving you options on what to do. Pick one and deal with it. No questions.

In the end there are just people who are worried about her or his self and don't bother reading anything more other than wanting an answer to their solution right that instant. I only wish people read posts like yours without being like "Oh mah gosh. Why is this happening?" "Uhm did you stop to read the other 1000 possible threads on this subject?" One thing is for sure. You can't change how people feel. You can try convincing them, but ultimately...well it is up to that person to decide. If a person is unhappy they are going to let the company know. If a person is experiencing a problem, they are going to want to know why and either find out why or ask themselves. Neither is wrong do you agree? Especially if said company allows it. Who doesn't want technical support?

Again, while there are plenty of topics and announcements on this people don't want to deal with you or Joe Bob or Sefir0thXIV. They want an answer to their problem. Also, saying "Tell them the problem is solved, and give them their options." is ehh. "Hello Square Enix. I am getting this 1017 and I can't log in three days after my purchase. Why?" "HEY YOU. Yeah you. The problem is solved. So take your complaining elsewhere. Now you can get your free 7 days or refund. What will it be? "Well uhm, let me try to log in since it is solved. The world is full. Please wait until an opening is available and try again. Uhm well it's still persisting here." It doesn't appear to be solved.

Sorry, I hope you don't take this as an attack. It's not meant to be. I threw small jokes in there like the money thing which was aimed at both you and myself if you get it. I'll say it once more, it was a very good post. I just can't help, but point things out sometimes because not everyone thinks like you or I alike, but maybe you could take that as a compliment because I know I would.

FFXI broke 1 million active accounts... thinks it's safe to assume this would be a popular enterprise.

Spent a lot of time lurking on their forums (even after I could no longer post there), and there is a sh!t load of posts of people talking about jumping ship for XIV: ARR.

Just saying... if you indeed are going to bring XI into the equation for projecting XIV membership, this launch is an abject failure. Hands down.

LOL you think the data centers are in Yoshi P's house? The NA one is in Canada. I have worked with people in different countries around the globe before and I can tell you the time difference alone is a HUGE problem.

At 5k cap per server, that would fill 30 servers, and about half of them were locked out from new character creation... so we were pretty much on the mark there with that number.---and we KILLED the servers by Saturday night. They g ave us a 3 hour extension, when many didn't get access again until the last minute, in the middle of the night for most of the world. It basically rendered Beta4 virtually pointless after Saturday night.

How many servers did they put up and carry into EA? How many servers did we wind up with in the end that were locked from new account creation (ie, hit/exceeded 5k cap)?

Wait for that to sink in folks.......
Reread #2 and #4. Beta is not paying users. People were still buying DURING EA. Beta 4 which was only 1 week from EA only had duty finder go down. During EA is when they realized there was a problem. Like I said before shit takes time. They needed time to get new servers and prepare them and test them. EA was 3 days from launch. The were dealing with servers around the world. NA is in Canada, JP is in Japan.

Haha just another one standing on the outside looking in. Kiss up make SE look good you will get "A+ awesome, well written" blah blah blah. If you have any of the problems listed by OP DONT COME HERE for answers. As you can see we all have the right answer. Call them call the on you bought it from and so forth. Someone says no.. call back talk to someone else.

You want to talk to someone that WORKS there. This person and me have no clue whats going on any better then you other then they read some DEV tracker or the like and spitting back at you. Your 1st clue you should question is when people start popping out "%".

Holy sh**. This is the most rational post I've ever read on a forum. Were you a prior community manager from another MMO?

Well written OP, A+, I'm still upset but I also understand that sh** happens and if the server issues gets fixed on this maintenance then I'll forget everything in a day or two, just like 75% of the community on here lol

Ormuco can provide standby hardware just for this sort of thing (that's who manages the NA/EU IP's by the way, strong possibility that's where our servers are too). IBM can overnight hardware by just calling their 800 number, and provide a technician on site in most cases as well. Dell has locals to assign on site and has overnight service. HP too. Hell, the HP Moonshot is designed for you to just gank cartridges out and drop new ones in. Sucks that you can't tweak them like the typical blades, but it really simplifies things to just be able to rip the whole thing off the backplane and drop a new one in.

Just saying... groups that specialize in this kind of thing, are prepared for this eventuality. SE just simply didn't get the ball rolling until it was too late.
