We might delude ourselves into thinking we own it but according to those little agreements we have to accept we don't own anything. They have the right to cut off our access for no good reason if they wanted to. Any maintenance or problems they have are to be accepted as eventualities and it's something we need to learn to deal with. They can permanently ban anyone for any reason, or no reason at all because when we hit accept on those agreements, we agreed to just that. It's the same for WoW, EVE, Rift, GW2, LoL, Diablo III, TSW, etc. We should be grateful we even get to play at all. Grateful that they are doing everything they can to make sure we can play when we want to. Grateful that even after all the hateful and spiteful things we've said and done on these forums, they continue to provide a service to us to the best of their ability.
All that is well and good, if the outages are reasonable.

A large portion of your player base being denied access for days because you were ill prepared, despite all the warnings,. while a large portion is allowed unfettered access for no other reason than "I got in first and refuse to log out".... is not reasonable.

Taking servers offline for everyone for a weekend or even a week while you work on the problem, and then compensating people for the downtime would be considered reasonable. Everyone would be on equal footing, there would be an established time frame, and everyone would understand what was going on and what to expect.

What we have here is nothing of the sort. This was SE screwing the pooch.
