The only latency problems in the game is due to the serverside interface, which has nothing to do with the server location but the optimization of server code.

In FFXI no one side of the world plays better than the other side with the exception of maybe folks in south america which is notorious for bad latency with gaming in general.

Wow, that is blatantly false. Everyone complained in FFXI of bad ping. Besides, auto-attack kind of disguised the atrocious latency issues.

Most people who played FFXI like an international game and are used to this. I hate region based servers, I am from American but I speak french, I couldn't play with any french or quebecois friends? no thanks. Just because you aren't multilingual doesn't mean a game doesn't have to be.

Because the fact that, in the day and age of globalized internet, this is one of the few games in which people can play with their friends all over the world, is an absolutely great thing.

Segregated servers in the age of globalized internet is as laughable as it gets. Not to mention inconvenient and plain obsolete.

I could say the same for forced latency issues. I'm not saying there should not be the option of global servers if you want to put up with the latency, but they should give people the option to play regional too so they don't have to deal with the awful ping, compounded by SE's awful network coders.

    WoW says otherwise.

Lol. The latency you get from distance is absolutely inconsequential in any MMORPG that's not very strongly action based (this isn't an FPS). I'm european and most of the times i play on american servers because it's idiotic to be segregated just with people from my nation or Europe (that talk a crapton of different languages anyway), not to mention getting what's usually a crappier service and delays.
Latency has never been a problem (as it isn't in this game actually), even in heavily PvP based games like warhammer online or dark age of camelot.

Very serious. WoW is based on some of the most obsolete concept of the MMO field.

That's an absolutely arbitrary statement, and false considering that most non english speakers actually DO make an effort to speak english.

FF is more about the journey and interesting people you meet along the way. It requires attention and dedication.
WoW is more about keeping it easy going, giving easy and instant gratification. Its pretty much like comparing house m.d. to american idol.
