Why no regional servers?

While I can appreciate the sentiment, I would rather not have lag. And anyway, interacting with other cultures through an MMO kind of defeats the point.

The lag is insignificant. This isn't a FFS or a PvP-oriented game. You don't need to save yourself those few precious frames.
