Well JPs wanted a JP server forever, but that's because they feel this is "their" game, which I can see why. SE isn't going to give it to them, they've been complaining since before the game came out. So why if they won't give it to their best fan base would they give it to you? "cause you really want it?" you can't have everything you want, especially if they're dedicated to making this one of the only international games out there.

Because JP are in japan and have no latency. We do.

They had a selfish reason for demanding servers, we have a legitimate one.

Anyway, I don't see why regional and international servers can't coexist. Why can't we have both.

They could implement servers in SE Europe and SE USA (france and California respectively), which would solve latency problems and would not automatically make the game region based. Region based servers isn't the only answer to the latency problem, that's speaking in absolutes, and that is a logical misstep.

Eorzea isn't Spain, or France, it isn't New Zealand or Australia, it's just a game. And as such, you can't experience different cultures through it. And even if you can, you can only experience them in a really diluted way.
Sorry, but i can easily call bull on this. You don't experience different cultures only through places. You mostly experience them through interacting with *people*, which is exactly what you do in MMORPGs.

    (Hello!)(Party)(Can I have it?)

That's culture? Pretty much interacted with people from all over and not absorbed this culture you speak of. Either way, I doubt the majority care about experiencing someone elses culture through a video game. They'd rather play.

Well lets make a server for ignorance called "unworldly server" and make an international server called "worldly server", those of us who want to nerd out and talk to other people can, and those who want to spam all day and get to max level while remaining completely quiet with even people who speak their own language, can hang out with each other.

    *half joke post*

    Problems with global servers:
    • Limits the potential of combat pace and response-times due to latency/ping
    • Half the player-base speaks another language and it becomes difficult to interact with them (therefore ends up being more exlusive than inclusive)

The issue with latency is probably the biggest one. It places a lot of restrictions on how involved they can make combat, unless they shift more of it server-side (but that just opens up room for exploits). Last night I was doing leves (and I hadn't played for a while and forgot how unresponsive things were) and only then did I realise just how terrible the delay was.

It's just not as fun as it should be when your character does not do what you're telling it to do.

While I think it's a novel idea to have global servers, the benefits are so minor as compared to the problems it causes.
pros to segrigated servers: Own language, higher response during peak hours. Less lag, I agree, But watch below

Cons to Segrigated servers Less diversity to play time,Peak times are rationed, unless you play on those times it would be hard to find other players (people who work long hours will suffer). Will split staff and game development would suffer due to cost of over seas employment.

Pros to global severs higher on peak ratio and more diverse gameplay. Less cost to company so more is spent on development of the game. less strain on server on "peak times" as this is evened out naturally through time-zones

Cons to Global servers less people per server. Peak times are rationed, unless you play on those times it would be hard to find other players. Altho some lag, not much compared to a "busy" localised server.

Yeah, by watching a lalafell perform a /cheer emote, I gain a nice insight into the nuances of middle eastern cultures.

Half the time I don't even know what countries people are from because all they do is talk about the same boring crap anyway. Everyone's the same, more or less. As far as it concerns an MMO, everyone is basically the same.

I'd rather interact with people with interesting personalities than with people whose personalities I can't understand due to language barriers.

The average person I've met in FFXIV can't even nerd out properly, I can't talk to them about anything even mainstream nerdy. The couple people I've met from other countries who want to practice english can at least nerd out effectively. I can't honestly talk to someone and call them my friend if they have never seen star wars. And if you only saw Episode I-III, I couldn't even stomach that person. So I have to go elsewhere to find people with nerd interests since the general trend in America is towards "the masses of stupidity" proven by how many play WoW, or watch Glee.

The lag is insignificant. This isn't a FFS or a PvP-oriented game. You don't need to save yourself those few precious frames.
