I believe a large chunk of that time was developing the engine from ground up and tools in order to develop the game, I believe that the game really only had about 3 years of development. This is true, but that was 11 years ago.
This game was in development for 5 years. 5 years. And they had all the accumulated experience and knowledge from creating and running FF11, yet they couldn't transfer any of that knowledge into making FF14 a good game from the very beginning? What in the world were they doing for those 5 years, anyway?
I give SE the benefit of the doubt for the most part, but there had to have been some serious problems with efficiency and development for this game to have the problems that it has even though the very same company has been running a hugely successful MMO for the past 11 years.
They still have time to turn it around, but that time is running out fast.
The problem with that, is that those of us who have stuck it out since launch have done pretty much everything there is to do in this game.
See, you're making generalizations about people. Hardcore Player A, Hardcore Player B, Hardcore Player C, Hardcore Player D & Hardcore Player E are all different kinds of players, but you're one of those people so content to lump people into large categories simply to disregard opinions/ideas from the individual.
People like you literally make me "lol." How do you survive in the real world without getting back-handed for your ignorance?
No. I believe they were correctly referring to people who take games, and themselves, far too seriously. In that sense, the term "hardcore player" refers to all of them. If you'd prefer a better term, we could always call you Video Game Drama Queens.See, you're making generalizations about people. FFXI was released in america along with its first expansion. Before that there was no sky. Not even absolute virtue.
The game is far too easy now.
Where are this game's version of Sky (KIRIN)? Where's Sea (Absolute Virtue)? Where's a real, challenging Notorious Monster (HNM) that makes you think of strategies and is a real tough, brutal fight? One where you may not win all the time, but once you do, you feel REWARDED and SATISFIED?
When Dynamis first came out in FF XI (early years), it was brutal, and maybe having a 50+ Person Dungeon is a bit extreme, but currently FF XIV has NOTHING challenging (except the unbalanced Rank 60+ mobs running around the edges of the current maps (e.g., Doomvoid Guivres, etc.)).
It takes time. I know a lot of the great areas in FF XI were Expansion Packs later.
Asking for these things so early on when there isn't even a set battle system is a bit silly.
There wasn't even Valkurm Dunes. Which was the true test of most players real mettle in XI.
I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.
I don't see people taking out the guivres and salamanders by the dozen, either. I guess its only too easy until its too hard...
Hi Majidah, and All,
Oh don't get me wrong, I know the U.S. version of FF XI launched with the 1st Expansion Pack included, so Japan got to bear the brunt of the waiting and clean-up.
But as the years go on, is it "fine" to expect paying customers / players to wait, let's say, 1 year or 2 years for challenging, meaningful content as they get up in ranks?
I know it'll take time, and maybe it's just venting, but there's so little to do right now except try another Class and get that up to 50, and rinse and repeat. Guildleves and Crafting.
The other part of my post is precisely what you're mentioning also: I'm hoping to see the fundamental changes first and hopefully not in another year or 2.

Well, to put things into perspective and give a glimpse in how far off xiv is... it was released with no way to sort your inventory. This game is to be considered in beta stage until they start charging. Specially because there will be some game changing updates.
I'm giving XIV a year to develop before expecting anything from it.
If the fact that changes take time for you is a "problem", then you may want to move to the land of fairy tales, because that's the only place where overhauling a MMORPG doesn't take a considerable enough of time.
By the way, Dynamis was brutal? LOL. You sure have a pretty elastic idea of "challenging", not to mention "brutal".

What's with the cynical harsh criticism? I'm only trying to politely voice my *opinion*. Is that wrong? Is posting anything that you don't agree with grounds for demeaning the other person? Seriously?
Dynamis when it first launched (figuring out what to do, organizing multiple alliances, exploring the land, etc., taking down Shadow Lord for the first time as a group) was certainly more interesting and challenging than the content we have right now. Guildleves and Crafting. Raptor Parties?
