Making gil without relying on the Auction House or quest rewards?

    Simple question, really.

After hitting level 50 and clearing most of my quests, I realize I'm at a loss as to how to make money without selling stuff on the auction house. I'm not someone who likes crafting or gathering stuff, and I'd rather spend my entire day running dungeons over and over, but that doesn't seem feasible at the moment as dungeons barely give out any money.

I've thought about levequests, but on a 24-hours cycle, that gives a player 6 leves at 400-600 gil a piece. That's less than half what repair costs can end up at level 50.

Is the economy solely founded on selling on the AH? Because that sounds like an awfully broken system without ways to manually generate some money. EVE has a player driven economy but you can still make more than enough by doing game-generated content for as long as you wish, whereas the problem I've encountered so far is that once you finish the generated content you CAN'T make any gil without selling to other players.

Just like in RL, you can't pay the bills by having fun all day!

Find something that drops materials that sell for a lot at the AH, and go farm that thing. Otherwise, you'll have to Get A Job just like everyone else.

You make a really good point. I like to sell crafts on the AH but alot of times it takes money to make money. I'd hate to be in a position where I had no money and very little means to make any.

Except this doesn't make any sense from any design standpoint, and it drives the economy towards total collapse. Mending equipment at level 50 already costs several thousands, and I'm in crappy gear. Once everyone gets hit by the money sinks, the entire thing will fall onto itself.

There NEEDS to be ingame generators other than players, it's just not feasible to keep playing past a certain point if the only way to "make" money is transfer what little there is between players because everyone already hit the cap. Even in a real life economy, money needs to be funnelled from something. And unlike a real life economy, this game has sinks where money simply disappears, never to be seen again.

Nonsense. The economy ran for quite some time in 1.0 without "total collapse" as you put it. Man-up and start crafting.

An alchemist can make a Book of Electrum. Everything you need to make it you can harvest. If you decide to vender it it sells for ~200 gil. Make 5 of those and you have 1k Gil. It is not that hard to make money. You just need to get motivated and do something about your problem of bein lazy. If you want Gil then start working for it.

There are economic truth in what Egonomics is saying. When the game mechanics drains more money than it generates, the economy will experience deflation, which is bad. Can't say much about the income level at cap...but let say at cap there is little to no money generating mechanics to outweigh the repair cost, then the community will have to be self sufficient in relying on other crafters to repair, or that the money generated from earlier quest is so great that it will last for a long time. Even then, AH sinks a portion of your money away. This guy knows his economics.

I too think this is a big problem. I'm losing an average of 1k gil on repairs for each instance run at 50 and earning nothing from it. There needs to be reliable ways to earn money outside the market.
If everyone has to use the market, the supply will become too high.. People will start quitting the game when they see they don't make enough gil for repairs and there's no way to earn some in a reliable way.

See, what I'm talking about is not "pick up a job and get money", this is not the problem I'm seeing here (although yes, I did pick up a job and made a bit of money out of it).

The problem is that money sinks, for every single players, offset the money they can generate ingame without other players' help. This will lead to an eventual economic drought. Everyone needs to repair, everyone needs to pay the 5% tax on the marketboard. This is money that is literally lost to the game and that we won't see again. These are the costs in particular that need to be offset.

Back in early 1.0, leves used to hand out about 20k per run. That's 80k for 6 leves a day, and more than acceptable at high level to pay for QoL systems. This does not exist anymore. Leves hand out measly sums (450 at level 50? Really? Not even 1k?). This is self-destructive, and Square needs to fix it.
