Everything said above is correct, but to add a bit:

If you have a PC version now and you buy a PS3 version when you stall it you will have two options.

1. add it to your existing account. this will mean that your service account can play both the PC and PS3 versions you have purchased. This means you can play all your characters accross both platforms, but not at the same time. However you will get the free 30 days from the PS3 version added to your existing PC 30 days as well so as long as you don't want to play together at the same time this is a good option.

2. create a second server account for the PS3 version. This is a great option if you want to play together but you can not access your PC characters on the PS3 or vice versa. The down side to this is after the 30 days you will need to pay 2 separate subscriptions to keep playing with your son.
