    Concerning New servers and maintenance (please read)

    Please read and keep this bumped so that some may see it before posting another "Why aren't SE doing anything?" topic.

    This is a quote directly from the front page news on the Lodestone News section.

    "To resolve this issue, we will be performing maintenance from September 3, 2013, at 5:00 p.m. to September 4, 2013, at 3:00 a.m (PDT), for the purpose of increasing the number of available Worlds, reducing stress on the Duty Finder servers, and increasing the number of concurrent logins allowed for each server."

    But what are we supposed to complain about then if we manage to get into the superfull worlds after maintenance?? Too much people around?

    Here's what i am worrying about,

    They increase the server cap, sure, but this allows more people to just AFK all day, it won't take long before all of this happens again.

    Everyone knows they have no AFK kick, so why bother logging out?

    Replying respectfully, I think the only reason people are staying logged in now is for fear of 1017. There is no reason to stay logged in otherwise... You do not gain any additional benefit by doing so. XI had the ability to stay logged in as well, and after that rocky launch stabilized, a good majority of people logged out whenever AFKing for long periods of time.

    i know, i don't AFK to just make sure i have a spot, like the majority are doing right now, since it is disrespectfull to other customers who deserve to play as much as the next person.

    i hope the upcoming maintenance finally solves the issue at hand, but i have this strong feeling people will keep AFKing untill a proper system is put in place.

    With a higher concurrent user cap, it will be easier to login, people will worry less about having to AFK and stop doing it, as more people stop worrying and AFKing, it will become better and better. In the same way that the number of AFKers has snowballed because people are having problems and fear is making them act in a selfish way, when those fears are calmed, they will stop AFKing and the problem will disappear as quickly as it arose.

    It's a classic feedback loop. when the servers were too busy, people got fed up waiting and some decided to AFK for long periods of time, which artificially increases the concurrent user count. that made the login problem worse, so when people finally got logged in they were more likely to go AFK instead of logging out, this loop repeats until the servers are in the state they are in now with potentially 1000s of AFK players per server.

    We need to get this feedback loop to go from being a vicious cycle to being a virtuous cycle where things improve. So, by increasing the concurrent user count and restarting servers, it will be easier for people to login. gradually people will relax a little and stop AFKing, when they stop AFKing, the concurrent session load will diminish again, making it easier for people to login which will make even more people decide not to AFK, and so on, until the server achieves a more normal operating cycle and people are no longer selfishly blocking others by AFKing. Unfortunately, I bet it takes a bit longer for this to happen than it did for people to fill the servers up.

    Edit: Of course even adding a simple AFK timer with sufficient smarts to defeat auto-firing controllers will help greatly as well, even if bots can defeat the AFK timer, it will reduce the AFK population enough to have the desired effect.

    With ffxi... I mean you had the bazaar system... but now in here there's no such thing and no reason to stay logged in when you're done playing.. other than to piss people off lol
