Cant play without using a VNP (Using Spotflux)

Why is it that I cannot play this game without using a VPN to connect to the servers? Im able to log in fine without the VPN, but when the game comes up, the start button is always faded out and im not able to click it and about 15 seconds later gives me the error 2002 cannot connect to servers. But when I start using the Spotflux VPN application, im then able to click the start button and play.
This wouldnt be so bad if it was not for the fact that VPN slows down the connection and i get a little lag. I have Comcast and connecting wirelessly to the router from in another room. I opened up my ports for the game and it still doesnt work. Im not sure what is the problem?

Japan, who knows. I got the Start error as well several times. See how it goes after the maint as they stated that they will "Address several known issues" but nothing specific.

idk why japan would have anything to do with it since my server is a US one lol. Idk...I literally CANNOT play without using the Spotflux program...its really stupid :/

I don't think SE is supporting the game played through VPN, it will fall under the area of YMMV and AYOR.

Have you tried connecting wired to your router? You might need to change additional settings on the router if you're running wireless.
What you can try otherwise is to change your DNS server settings to use opendns or google's dns servers.

The router is in the basement while as my computer is on the second floor upstairs. So I cannot connect wired. Also im not sure anything about anything about DNS stuff o.O
