    Server load suggestion.

I am loathe to mention the game I came from previous to this, but while I was trying to log in for the umpteenth time, I came up with a suggestion to the devs regarding lightening the server loads or at a suggestion on how to at least fix the problem.

The idea came from a previous MMO. How they had handled the amount of users was not by adding more worlds which would cause the problem of separating potential fellow players more then it already has, but by adding channels within those worlds. What would this accomplish?

    1) Ability to create more characters within one given world so that people who want to play in at least the same world have a chance to play with the friends they had originally purchased the game to play with by switching to the correct channel. Less people would leave the game knowing that they at least have this choice vs. having to purchase a pass to a different world when they had already been limited in the very beginning. I personally would be pissed to have to pay to switch if my options were limited in the very beginning and my friend is on a congested server.

2)Less characters created in random worlds just to play and then join another server that their friend is on thus freeing up more space for creation and saving more space

3)It will handle the queue better, less run ins with the loathed error 1017. Upon logging into the game and in character selection mode, if the channel states the current status on how many players are logged on/or whether or not it is at the limit, people can choose to sign onto a different channel in that world so that they can still get the chance to play and feel as if they are getting their "money's worth".

4)Create a bigger base of loyal players due to the fact they can play with their friends vs. having to create several characters on different servers and then losing all interest due to going through the same steps over and over on a different character. One major strength in this game is that you don't have to relog to switch classes. Make it stronger by allowing people to still use that main character to play with their beginner friends so they can experience the newer class story. This will solve the issue of people having to switch servers just to play and finding out they cannot log back in again due to error 1017

In comparison to creating more worlds, I feel there are more positives and more ways for you guys to save. Not only are you saving customers by solving one main issue ("Waah! I can't play with my friends!! I couldn't log in for the past 20 hours!"), but you are lessening the chance of having to create more worlds in which later on you will have empty and then will have to merge. It will also allow players the freedom to play on channels less populated if they have any issues regarding areas of high player congestion.

I hope this gets to the people who can make this happen and they can see the value in this suggestion. I really want to make this game work out as this is the first Final Fantasy game I have played and actually liked since FF6. I would like to be able to say that Square still has it and you guys definitely still do, its just the unfortunate kinks that all MMOs go through in the beginning that need to be dealt with.

    Cheers.

(I wanted to post this in the right forum and now I wish I played during the beta phase so this suggestion could possibly have more weight and probably would have helped. I do not know if this has been suggested before so I apologize if it has. I also apologize if this is the wrong forum for this suggestion as I couldn't figure which one this would have fit in If you would like to see this at work, look at the game mabinogi, as it is the game that I have pulled the idea from. Even though the servers can be heavy with AFKers, even at the extremely busy periods, people have been able to log in to play)

They did this in lets see, I think all of the Phantasy Star games, um they did this in Tabula Rossa (not sure if thats how its spelled), um... Playstation Home does this (discretely)... if it wasn't so early in the morning and I wasn't so tired i might be able to come up with a dozen or so more, there are advantages and disadvantages to this method. But it would still require more hardware be installed, there's really just no way around that.

I haven't played any of their other games, especially their other MMOs so I am not sure what the reasons may be for them not wanting to take that route when they had taken it before.

As far as what the disadvantages are, I would like to hear them just so I personally know myself why. I will admit I have never made an MMO is either format, though I have played it so I don't know the issues that can be run into behind the scenes, only what it appears to look like to me as a player who has experienced other MMOs.

No worries. I am kinda tired too and its a bit early for me to probably write this, but I felt like it should be at least mentioned in hopes that it might help them out in the end. If not, at least it has been said.

Being in IT I will admit im no programmer and have no desire to be, but these aren't game design issues. they are server issues (and although i don't know everything I have been studying this stuff a while and even get to teach some of it to college students). Most of the reason you wouldn't' want to switch to something like this unless you had to is you would have to scrap your current system and start over (even doing some re programming in the game) i don't think SE want's to pull the game again for another 6 months for retooling.... that would be my first concern if I were the Sr. Server Admin. Also there are other issues extending to and including game immersion (try explaining different channels on an RP server) and if i were more rested i could go further into this but those are 2 (i think) examples that might be on the admin's mind. also the current system can/will work with added hardware and even if they switched they'd STILL have to add hardware, so there's not quite as clear of an advantage there. I do think there are some things that could have been done better in an ideal world but remember server admins deal with budgets too, and to say "they sold 1.2 million copy's" is short sighted when its only been a week and they had no idea it would sell that well until pretty much open beta (a week before launch) which is not really enough time to deploy a bunch of server systems that have not been prepared in advance. its great to drive from the back seat, try doing it from the front seat some time (not directed at you Erismontez just feeling tired and grumpy maybe i should sleep)

Guys .. once again. You aren't the professionals. So please keep your suggestions to yourself. You don't have the knowledge to pose any suggestions at all. You probably never even saw a line of code. So please(!!) stfu, sit down and wait for the professionals to solve the problem.

Thanks for the assumption that I haven't seen code in my life . Also, a suggestion is a suggestion. Whether they choose to ignore mine and continue on is up to them, and not to you. You can do the same instead of bumping my topic. Thanks for that by the way.

Or does professional mean something other than getting paid to do something after spending years of school and 80,000 (often more) dollars on said education.... >.>

I'm a software developer as well, but I actually enjoy my job.

As you are most likely in the same business I am you shouldn't be as naive as the others. Both of us know that making suggestions without even knowing the games architecture is just plain dumb.

I bumped it so let more people see your sheer dumbness, enjoy.

A suggestion for things that you have absolutely no clue about isn't an suggestion, but simply bullshit and dumb. That's how it is.
