Because I still get 1017 boot back and cannot update character list. Its always randomly one character list or the other, never both. And if i get unable to update JP character list, it persists until I restart the whole client - several times.

1017 isn't a bug, its the servers are full... not something you fix without adding more hardware (usually). In an MMO world "Server Maintenance" that lasts an hour or so stands for "something bugged and we hit the reset button" if there was real maintenance you'd have received a patch, or it likely would take longer to implement.

getting the 1017 "error" right after simply means 6000 people were waiting to get on just like you but there's STILL only room for 5000.

The problem for me is the Group JP worlds aren't showing up. I understand the whole 1017 issue. What I don't understand are the NA/EU Groups showing up but not the Group JP worlds, then backing out and the opposite happening.

I mean it doesn't even retry to update the list. It waits up to 3 seconds and then says "Fuck you"

If I thought it was a bug I would be in bug reports. . . So please explain the inability to update character lists since you are assuming the technical support role.

Heh, very clever. I don't work for SE however I do work in IT (Server Administration even). So I do have theories about that. And as for "Assuming the technical support role" just trying to be helpful good sir. Not everyone on these forums spent years studying Servers and IT systems.

Edit- and yes all the issues described in this thread are caused most likely by overloaded servers. There's clusters for each phase, Launcher, Loby, "Server(world)", Duty finder and prolly several more not listed. at any point if too many people attempt to log on errors can occur including your client being "unable to retrieve NA/EU (or JP) server list," Funny thing about error codes is they tend to tell you EXACTLY whats going on >.>

The solution i've found is to completely exit the client and restart the process, if this doesn't work after a couple of tries the servers may be in the process of a restart OR there just may be more traffic than you'll ever be able to beat by trying to spam in. in which case try logging on at different hours (if you can and if you can't im sorry).

BS, because after several 1017's, several attempts to log in, it starts giving unable to update character list.
