    Birthdays and Gods plan?

Old question that popped up several times in 1.0... And I believe we were told by the original development team there were plans to add additional functions/quests/story that gave our choices further meaning behind it.

Of course the new development team came in and changed things. I was just curious if they ever planned to do more with the options we made with our character upon creation? I know they gave the gods markers throughout the game and lore and I love it but it would be cool if there was a unique purpose to them

It would be nice to add something to namedays and guardians. Perhaps an Eorzean horoscope?

It'd be nice to have something as silly as a small nearly insignificant buff increase for moon rotation based off birthday or a silly birthday card in your mailbox with say a firework.

As for the gods ... My god they can do so much with that.

It definitely is a huge missed opportunity. Unfortunately, I think they won't do much with it because SE seems intent on making all races and characters as generic and alike as possible, outside of appearance.

That would be a shame. I'm a ffxi fanboy so maybe I'm biased but I did like the fact the races in there were stats different to some degree. Granted too much but there really should be some middle ground to make us more unique

Don't misunderstand, I absolutely agree with that. I wish the races and other decisions, like Birthsigns, of XIV had more of an impact on playstyle.

However, it seems to be against what Yoshi and co are trying to do with XIV.

Problem with giving birthdates and races a significant advantage for one role or the other is, that people start to view a certain race or guardian deity as mandatory for a certain role, and will sneer on anyone who digresses from the 'optimal' combination. I didn't play XI myself, but from what I heard from friends that was a problem there, right?

So, I think it would be extremely difficult to outright impossible to implement that in a way that still allows players to freely choose what combination to go with. Not because it would be impossible, but because people can be jerks...

There was definitely sub optimal races for a job, but they definitely weren't so bad to not get invites. And they released race specific gear that reduced your strengths and increased your weaknesses so if you were playing a off job you had the option to fix your stats to a small degree through all the horizontal gear options

Not really, no. The differences weren't big enough to be a problem and the weaknesses tended to compensate. For example, Tarutaru (the Lalafell predecessor) had the highest MP but by far and away the lowest HP and Vitality. That didn't stop them from being tanks. I was in a prominent end-game LS and we didn't care about your chosen race at all. One of our main tanks was, in fact, a Tarutaru and our BLMs Elvaan (which, in XI, were HP/STR/MND-styled with the second lowest MP and INT).

It was far from a problem and I never once felt obligated to play as a certain race. Even better, it added flavor rather than the generic races we have now.
