Nah, they should bring out a Snow Gobbue instead.
Nah, they should bring out a Snow Gobbue instead.
When the devs list a timetable for when the mount stops being attainable, it is not a promise that such items will never return.
The word "exclusive" just means that it is limited in some way. Time cards are EU/JP exclusive at the moment. It is not uncommon for exclusive retailer preorder bonuses to be attainable years later. Many games use repeating holiday events to distribute exclusive items. The Coeurl is an exclusive mount for CE/DCE, but it isn't going anywhere.
Of course that is all moot. I don't have to even argue the different definitions of “exclusive” because the term exclusive is one you are other posters here are applying to the mount, not something you were promised.
To propose that this item was PROMISED to never be available again requires sourcing. Dev posts stating when the event ends is not good enough.

A slippery-slope argument is when someone proposes that conceding to A would inevitably lead way to B. It's the idea that bringing back the goobbue will be like a domino effect that cannot stop, that the decs are incapable of bringing it back without bringing back things like legacy status for example. This is a silly view.
An example of this fallacy in action: your post #41.
“If they can't trust that this will be one-time only, how about legacy benefits, could we then trust that they won't be given away again?”
A "seasonal event" implies the event repeats on a cycle (like seasons themselves). Exclusive items are handled in many games this way actually.
The events, yes. But not the rewards. Like Christmas event:
2010 - Santa suit
2011 - Rendeer suit
2013 - Snowman suit
For the Goobbue, the event was a one-time, the reward should also be a one-time.
It was a part of the 7th umbral era story.
Ne'er till land consumes sun can sea bear moons.
Heavens spew crimson flame, hells seep black dooms.
I have walked the four corners of Hydaelyn, from the Gardens of Xarakish, to the floating lakes of Voor Sian Siran, but never in my travels have I encountered such a fell prophecy. One need not be an oracle to precise the great ill which casts a shadow across this forsaken realm.
Yet...perhaps there is still hope for Eorzea.
When I arrived in this land, I was beset with peril day and night-forced to endure countless trials which tested my mind, my body, and my faith. And I am not ashamed to admit that I would have faltered, had it not been for the help of a handful of nameless adventurers much like yourself.
Honest men and women who proffered the hand of friendship to a weary soul and led him safe from the darkness. I pondered long over how I could repay the kindness shown me...only to find the answer in the most unlikely of places-the final verse of the selfsame song that had so haunted me since my first days in Eorzea:
Souls from aether far, strangers from strange lands.
Yester with thine eyes, morrow by thine hands.
Had the gods led me to Eorzea for a reason? Might I serve a higher purpose, through which lives might be saved and order restored to the realm? I hoped that it might be so. For what better use may a man's life be put to than to serve as an agent of divine intervention? ...But in what manner was I to play my part?
Seeking an answer, I prayed for twelve days and twelve nights until at least I collapsed of exhaustion. However, it was at this moment that I was blessed with a vision-a single-horned beast leading a flock of chocobos from a burning forest. When I awoke from my reverie, I knew what I must do.
Once, long ago, I was summoned to a wealthy satrapy far to the east to play in the royal court. When my performance was complete, the High Satrap was so moved that he offered me anything I desired in exchange for one more song. I humbly accepted, and for my reward requested knowledge of a secret that had been kept by the satrapy's military for generations-their method of taming goobbies.
Needless to say, the High Satrap was initially reluctant to grand me that which I had requested, but being n honest man, ever conscious of his obligation to set an example before his subjects, he soon relented and acquiesced to my terms. Since that time, I have kept his nation's secret, but now believe that as the sixth sun wanes and seventh moon waxes, it is mete that I should pass it on in hopes that the knowledge may be made to serve us all.
With this horn, may you lead us from despair, and help us in a new age. I put my trust in you, adventurer. Do not let me down.
And it was a reward for the people who remained ingame after P2P started to experience the 7th umbral era story. It came ingame shortly after the P2P started and long before the Legacy campaign.

There will be newer and better mounts coming out in this game. The Goobbue mount was both an incentive and a reward for those that stuck around and supported the game during 1.0 that enabled for 2.0 to come out. It will not be an honorable thing for SE to just suddenly give it away now, especially to those that did nothing but bash and ragequit SE during 1.0 and returned now in 2.0. The Goobbue mount should forever be a symbol of the relationship that loyal 1.0 players and SE has.
If the loyal players of 1.0 all ragequit as well like the rest, there is no 2.0 today. Goobbue is a small thing for new players to complain about by getting a good 2.0 game.
I didn't get one in 1.0 and I still think they shouldn't bring it back. Of course I am jealous, But they earned it when it was limited time only.
I hope that it remains exclusive to those who have already obtained it and is not brought back. I did not play 1.0, am a little green when I see one, but feel that's how it should stay.
I'm a legacy player who levels at a casual pace. I was at 26 when the servers went down, and thus, I don't have a gobbue.
I'd LIKE a chance to get it down the line, but I don't think any less of those who unlocked it and want it to stay exclusive to that one event.
To draw a RL example; Should I be "hatin" on my father-in-law because he went to Woodstock? I'd love to have been there, but I just wasn't around at the time. The 1.xx-players' Gobbue (and my in-laws' memories) is a small way for them to reconnect with the good times they had before I was even a factor. Just accept that in a living, breathing, world (real or digital) things change. Some things you were there for, and some things you missed out on.
2.0 is a lil over a week old and anyone can have access to at least 3 different mounts. just imagine how many different ones - limited or otherwise - we'll see over the next half-a-decade some of us may end up playing! Is a single missed Gobbue-mount REALLY that important?
I guess because SE folded and remade the game off of user complaints and bad media that now the new users and even older users feel that they can continue to complain even after launch because they just know that SE will listen to their every demand. I guess this game is going to be the new WoW when it comes to catering to every users cries. I'm 1.0 and I could have got legacy, I didn't care about getting legacy then and I don't care about getting legacy now. The mount looks stupid to me and the rug has low quality textures. I think people just want it because they can't have it. So when they realize they suck at playing and can't get pass the Coil of Bahamut I assume they will cry about that and expect the items to drop into their lap as well. This game is going to be a handout system if SE listens to their lazy behinds.
