The system requirements are insane enough as is. This would probably require a 32 core processor, 1TB of memory, and 4 videocards that wont come out for 3 year with SE programming it

When I think "ragdoll" I always think of "Star Wars: The Force Unleash II"

Being knocked over, possibly into a clumped up mess and getting up moments later as if your arm/legs/head never bent 170 degrees in the wrong direction isn't very realistic.
Almost, if not every every game I've seen with this mechanic can get a bit weird with them as well. I can't count how many times I've seen arms/legs/heads/whole bodies twitching and in some rarer cases rolling in one spot over and over due to uneven geography or the slightest obstacle in the way. We all know this game has plenty of that.
Ragdoll physics may work for some games which were created with them in mind, but not FFXIV. Maybe down the road more situational animations could be implemented and used randomly per-situation in order to add variation, but ragdoll physics are just a lazy way to do things.

I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.
Ragdolls can be very sophisticated these days and be constrained to only react in certain ways to make them look more realistic, and would also lower the risk of horrible terrain clipping or your limbs going crazy angles.

however, they do generally seem to be something you want to decide on putting in rather early in the game.
I have seen ragdolls in mmos and loved them, but I think i'd settle for more death animations. (everyone in a group wiping and laying in the same pose looks real dumb)
edit: also euphoria is pretty difficult to get ahold of.

Hellz no thanks!
I dont want my purdy ass flopping, twitchig around like it was some kinda of bug. (Yes some look hillarious...)
I used to be Noomy...then i took shiva's Hail Storm to my knee...
Let's not ignore the problem here:
We do need animation for when Nannygoat (or some other skill) pushes you over... Just not ragdoll...
As it is, you're just being knocked back while not even twitching... It looks really weird...
Something like this could be easily made: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NLwjg4PFnjU
Can also add the grass and sand flying around when being pushed back... As it is now, it doesn't feel anything but realistic... It's simply missing animation.

The problem is implementing them now in the engine would be to complex and unpredictable. It really is something you have to do from the beginning.
That would truly be epic! Same goes for the monsters, haha!(I don't know what dev tag this would fall under so i'm gonna omit that)
I think ragdoll physics in FFXIV would be a good idea, for a number of reasons which I will list here:
* It'd add a neat game mechanic to battles. For example, the headbutt ability aldgoats have would send you flying and landing in a heap!
* It'd add some more realism to the game
* and finally, it'd make agility more useful. As in, more points to your agility/dexterity would lower your chances of getting knocked over.
There, 3 reasons why I think ragdoll physics would be a good idea. Feel free to add your own as the thread progresses.![]()
LOL cash shop! SE's way to tell their player how they appreciate them... pull the carrot and empty your pockets $$$
And to those who support it: you are kicking yourselves. -- We just need to sit back and laugh at people with cash shop items.
(Marvelous economics IQ test!)
Imagine:
Punting a Lalafell down a long cliff-face, slow motion, with ragdoll physics, and to the tune of 'Electric Avenue'.
Someone say this is not too good to be true.
