What does being experienced MMORPG players have to do with SE deciding if they want to go FTP or not? They own SE or something?

Ugh no. I will drop this game like a rock if it goes f2p, even if its hybrid. If it does, look forward to spending thirty bucks a month on random 'Materia Grab Bags' just to be able to gear yourself for endgame/pvp.

SE will do whatever is going to net them the most profit. In most cases F2P does this. Unless the game is insanely popular and raking in the cash like WoW, then there is no reason to go F2P. If they start to lose money or aren't making as much as they really need to, then they will change their minds.
Fact of the matter is that while the money flow in a F2P model isn't always consistent, it is usually higher on average. If you have a limited number of subscribers that likely isn't going to grow then your money flow, while consistent (if not steadily in decline), stays roughly the same and you can count on getting that much month to month. However, if you go F2P and have a decent selection of items on your cash shop, then you open the gates to an immense number of players who might try the game. If they like it, they buy your cash shop items and usually will spend more than $15 a month. Some might spend more, some less. This will make you more money.
Did people really read the article?
He says its only a possibility if it was like the last resort to keep the game alive.
Judging by the amount of people playing and by my own time playing the game, theres no concern of that happening anytime soon.
WTF... an overwhelming success for P2P and you consider a freaking hybrid? If we were to sell the game out this way i'd quit my subscription.
idk whose this gif is this, but it is not mine and i would love to give full credit to the author. If you created this gif and want me to remove it/credit your name under it tell me.
The day they announce this game's going to be f2p, is the day I will stop play this game.
TBH, I've been playing f2p games for so many years, and FF14 ARR is my first sub based mmo, I know clearly how's like in a f2p mmo.
so yea, never go f2p pls or I have to switch

i Would not mind if they go B2P (as GW2), but going F2P? Please don`t. Even if you go Rift`s way on F2P no.
A B2P model like the one on TSW would be nice too.
But from now on, and for at least, 2 years and a expansion, please stay P2P.
I'm on the fence. I'd like to see it go F2P, and disagree with subs on principle - I think it's a bad trend in gaming. But I do also respect that they've shied away from throwing in a cash shop with it and you certainly get your moneys worth
Bit of an elitist attitude. I normally stick exclusively to F2P - this is my first sub game, and I can't say the community here is any better nor worse than the F2P... it's certainly not jerk-free, seen just as many here as elsewhere.

Minions
Mounts
The foundations are there for a cash shop.
Perhaps add:
Companions
Lockout reduction potions
Experience boost potions
However the moment they go:
Armour
Weapons
is when I'l wave goodbye

SWTOR failed because it had ZERO end game once u finished story....and it was very very buggy....FFXIV has three end game hard mode primals...with two more on teh way relatively soon....several level 50 dungeons to spam for DL gear and mythology to +1 AF and youre relics...which have a cap so itll take minimum three weeks to +1....PLUS bahamuts coil which even BG is struggling with past 3rd turn....so hardly a comparison.
