The team has a personal investment (emotionally) in this product succeeding. SE, however, is a company and operates on different rules/motivations this is true. However, SE is loosing money everyday this goes on and they absolutely know it. If you believe that SE has fully recouped their loss from 1.0 and the other mistakes that have mottled their recent history, you are severely underestimating how much they are behind financially.

Shopping in GameStop: I saw a guy standing in line with a PS3 copy. I talked to him about the game. I told him that if he bought it, he would most likely not be able to log in. He put it back on the shelf.

How many times each day does that happen around the world? How many gamers are turned off from this product because of a friend talking about it? Lots and lots.

SE is literally bleeding new subscribers daily.

SE is a company and they care about two things. Money and Reputation. They care about the latter because it effects the former.
