Red X means your level isn't high enough to equip it, green X means you can't equip it on your class... Or is it the other way around...

Do keep in mind that when you change classes, your level changes to the level of that class, meaning that if you just unlocked Archer it starts at level 1.

Does the eyepatch say you need to be a Disciple of War to wear it? As an Arcanist, I'm pretty sure you can't wear equipment with that label on it.

Just to clarify a bit more, quests will often give you more than one Equipment choice and a lot of times you can only wear one of them in your current class. Unless you plan on multi-classing as a non-mage class somewhere down the line, I would only accept the equipment that pertains more to being a mage - in this case, you should have chosen the witches' hat.

Edit: Oops, sorry, I just noticed you said Archer. You should be able to wear it as an archer; did you try to wear it as an Arcanist? Your bio on the forums says this is your current class.
