    Help Understanding Quest Rewards

I guess this game is different from other mmos. I had to choose an item for my archer, I went with the eyepatch even though it takes 3 from magic defense. It seemed better than taking the other hat that looked like a witch's hat that gave int. and I know that is not needed for an archer.

So I went to put it on and it says I need a leather worker to repair it....what? In any other game I have played it just takes the stats from you, in this one I cannot wear it at all even though I can wear leather? Nothing in the tutorial even tells you this. Can someone please explain it to me? I am so confused. The learning curve I know seems easy for a lot of players but for someone new to the ff series, I am perplexed.

    Thank you in advance!

You must have accidentally pressed "Repair" rather than "Equip". I know that eyepatch is wearable by all Disciples of War.

Wearing the item and repairing it yourself are two different things:

To actually wear the item, you have to be on the same level with the item and your class must be on the item's job list. (i.e. Headgear Item Level 10 for Disciple of War Classes can be worn once you are level 10 and your class is one of the 5 Disciples of War. Said item can't be worn by the other three groups of Disciple Classes)

To repair the item, two options are available to be done. First you let the NPC do this for you at the cost of some gil. Second, you do the repairs yourself with the class requirement and at the cost of some materials. The first one is self-explanatory so I'll only provide an example for the second one. (i.e Leather Headgear requires LeatherWorker Lv. 3 to be "self" repaired. This item can only be "self" repaired when you are using the LeatherWorker class that is at level 3 and above. The materials to repair may vary)

    Hope this helps.

I'm betting that your level isn't high enough to equip it, so that the equip option isn't appearing.

This. Quest rewards are sometimes higher level than the level of the quest.

I had the same problem Pixiey, was unsure what I was meant to do. I tried to equip some boots for magic users but could only get the repair option to show.

One thing to note that INT is good for archer all those elemental arrow attacks.
It could be class or level restriction, even gear that you think would be usable isn't.
Look at the text it will say exactly which jobs can equip it.

    SCH, WHM, BLM

That gear could not be used by CNJ for example, despite being available to 'MOST' of the Magic class.

It was a patch that was a level 5 leather piece for my archer. It had some stats in red the magic defense. When I right clicked on it the only choice was repair. and when I clicked on the repair thing it said that I needed to be a leather worker. So do archers not wear leather at level 5? I was the current level for the item this is why I am so confused. When you look at it it had a red x in the corner...is that bad? It would be nice if they actually told you this stuff instead of me accepting three different things that I thought would be good stats for me and they all have the repair only icon.

I would go back and see but all the jp servers are down now so i cannot look. LOL One day soon maybe. Thanks for all the help and any other thoughts are welcome!

Red X means your level isn't high enough to equip it, green X means you can't equip it on your class... Or is it the other way around...

Do keep in mind that when you change classes, your level changes to the level of that class, meaning that if you just unlocked Archer it starts at level 1.
