This happens in XIV right now, when you run out of leves to link up, most people leave the party and go find other people with leves. I've leve-linked with many people and I haven't come across them again. To put it in layman terms for you - when you're out shouting "LFG! Rank 23-27, meet up at Chocobo Stables!" because you wanna do it the old fashioned way and make friends, millions of people are ignoring you and queuing up for cross-server instances. It just becomes the norm and everyone will do it because its efficient but in this case it would completely negate engaging with other players. I'm also going to assume the dungeons will be jam packed with action, meaning what will likely happen with these random PUGs will barely even constitute a "hello" at the beginning, it'll be grind grind grind grind, ok "goodbye now, see you again in never!"....*that* is why people are opposed to this.
thats pretty much what I feel. Though I know I suck at saying it. XD
No thanks.
Having cross server systems like this flat out tells me that 90% of the game would end up taking place in instanced areas "it's the only logical conclusion to load characters onto another seperated server for instanced cross server communication" Not only could this be a nightmare for lag/disconects/server issues in general.
As it's been stated before it blunts any attempts to make a united server comunity. Why play with the people on your server when you can just que up for cross-server junk. You never have to see those people ever again so you can be the biggest elitist jerk of your life. Screw up? Well not a whole lot of people will ever find out because your playing cross servers! While communication could be routed it would still be incredibally hard to pinpoint someone across servers especially if they can just jump servers and be like "Oh must mean that guy on the other server Herp derp, now let me Ninja lot that loot for you."
I played on one of the most stagnant old-blood servers in XI....Odin after years of being closed to new players, yet I still managed to find plenty of new friends and people to play with without needing to travle to instanced dungeons.
I despise too much instanced content, I can't explore instanced content on my own while dodging agro. I can't go exploring just for the sake of getting cool screenshots, I can't go exploring just to fill out some Wikipedia articles or test my limits against monsters I shouldn't be fighting but want to see how I do! I can't test my solo strategies in instanced content. I can't do ANYTHING in instanced content aside from the asigned goal or I'm going to be ousted.
I don't mind there being a few instanced dungeons here and there, but I don't want everywhere to end up being a massive battle for entry, and being restricted from traveling to areas because "I don't have a large enough party to do ______"
So for the solo explorer that I hold in myself I must stand firm and say NO cross server junk.
If you don't find that a valid arguement I don't know what is.
jynx all that can happen w/o cross server.
It happen in ffxi pretty well. the ninja looting the elitist jerks the, parting with ppl you never will see again.
so no not really a valid reply. Only one would be tech issues. Not personal feelings.
Sorry if your not wanting cross server que system is a personal problem it is not valid.
My pov isn't personal as I know it can effect ppl. And i'm thinking of someone else in my posting. I'm pretty much fighting for someone who don't post on here. There are many people I met who couldn't join or form content event linkshells because of their work. Most endgame Na linkshells are run on california time of 9pm-12am. Not alot of eastcoat players can play that late. More so if they have sleep issues or be in bed for work at a certain time.
Your limiting the game and limiting yourself by not adding functions to this game....if you dont wanna use it then dont....the option is yours... it should be implimented....the more functions and options to use or do the better.
Repost from the "Say Yes..." forum (I'm on the fence on this one)
My vote is that they (SE) try this system out on the new "test servers" and that they "invite" peeps from different servers/worlds to try it out and give some feedback. It it works and peeps like it, patch it in, otherwise forget about it and don't waste too much time on it.
I'm all for anything that is fun that a large enough percentage of the playerbase enjoys, even if I don't.
On a side note I would like to comment on a constant (and growing) trend on these forums that I find disturbing. I see alot of "I want this" and/or "I don't want that" which is fine, esp since they asked for our opinions but there is so much rage in many peeps posts that I think we all need to remember the words of Mick Jaeger/Kieth Richards...
"...you can't always get what you want...and if ya try sometimes...ya just might find...ya get what ya need..."
Ultimately we will get the FFXIV that they give us (evolving of, course) and it will most likely contain content that some enjoy but some do not. It is a big virtual world and there is room for content for every kind of player.
Papa was a rolling stone...wherever he laid his barbut was home.
I playeed XI for Seven years and played the least popular jobs in the game.jynx all that can happen w/o cross server.

I started as Thief and never had issues, Ninja looters were banished from the server in most cases, and I can see people on my server everyday as long as they are logged on. Stop ignoring reasonable arugments and realize that Cross server play has failed miserably on every MMO it's been introduced in, aside from the tearing apart of the community.
Hell I play when most people sleep as well, but thats the beauty of playing with the entire world I played with European Japanese people more than I ever did North American. You just got to be willing to step out of your comfort zone. Cross server play is not a "Comfort zone" issue.
It's not only a technical nightmare that could plague us players with issues of lost loot, disconects and not being able to get back in to content.
Hell ignore the whole part of "locking out the entire game world for instanced content" thing why don't you. Then again you will just reply "Thats not valid" and be on your merry way.
Three threads open about this topic? Fine.

Cross-world partying would be an instant quitting flag for me. The system is already mindless as it is, remove the actual possibility for socialization with people from your server and there is nothing left of value.
Level-synch + bigger server population will solve every partying problem, so let's not be childish.
A cross-world system would also help RMTs to progress by mingling with normal players.
Kilta_firelotus, hello there. I do understand where you are comming from, cross-world auto party functions will save alot of effort. however, I would not go as far to say that those against it are forcing Ls systems onto other players. Infact, by implimenting this, it could be argued that the cross-world party search is being forced onto us.jynx all that can happen w/o cross server.

Now some people (including yourself) have pointed out that it's not the system which creates bad game-play, but the players who use it. that is true, to a point. There will always be horrid player, no matter what system you use. However, if party searches are kept on your individual server, then at least each player has responsability for their actions. with cross server parties, they have now responsability, who will be able to say they are ninja looters, or ragers etc if nobody is on thier server to tell others? People know this, and will exploit this fact
Also ask yourself, why would a development team put this into a game? to combat lack of population? the populations in the servers are still reasonable, not forgetting the tidal-wave of players when the ps3 launch comes out. If anything, this is damaging to the game from a business point of view. It is like SE are admitting they have low populations, therefore an unpopular game.

the reason i ignored it jynx cuz most of ffxi endgame is instanced.... heck most of the ffxi is instanced.... I played ffxi also and i seen alot of stuff happen you claim only happens with cross server stuff.
to prove my point, bcnm, ksnm, isnm, dynamis, nyzul isle, salavage 99% of all mission bosses. all of that was instanced.
non instanced nm hnm znm sea sky quests
semi instanced was besieged, ballista, campaing, and those outpost thingies
