If you go into the Character options, switch it from "Controller mode" to" Mouse and Keyboard mode." That will change the crossbars back into the regular straight bars.

No? It's two horizontal "macro" bars.. As soon as I hit X once to put the cursor on the mob I'm facing, then X again to engage (weapon drawn out), I should have the ability to scroll left/right and up/down to choose my abilities..

In your claim, I need to use the keyboard.. so the PS3 controller is left with very limited options.

I didn't say it would work with the controller, and also saw no indication that you wanted to use the controller, so yes, if you want to use a controller, you're currently stuck with the crossbars. As far as the original bar goes, I don't see why they would bring it back. It was very tedious to use to say the least. I will say, pertaining to your remark about having many more abilities equipped, a way to cycle back through the bars with the controller instead of just forward would make it better.

As a gamer who has played a few mmos on the console, I have to somewhat agree with the OP about the cross bar. Its kinda hard to get use to. Though I am slowly getting adapted to the functions, I'd have to say if SE gave us an option to even somehow some way use a function like FFXI ...I'd be okay with that
