I like the crossbar. I find it works well, at least for me. I don't know if there's a way to cycle backward through the pages, though RB cycles forward.

Just curious, what exactly is the difference between the two? I didn't play in 1.0.
Edit: Ah okay, for the PS3 it's that you either hold L2/R2 down and hit triangle/X/O/square or the directional pad, or switch it so you only have to tap L2/R2 then press any of the buttons.

Its your typical MMO bar, like in WoW, SWtOR, City of Heroes, etc. A straight bar with your binds on 1 through 0
It was a pain to use with a controller through because you needed to select each item on the bar individually with the D-Pad and activate it with A. I don't know if the binds are changed for this version, but the 1.0 hot bar was very very controller un-friendly.

crossbar it works but it not better then 1.0.
targeting modes dont stay on the settings you set the always revert back to ALL or OTHER.
SE screwed up removing <st> macro placeholders. <tt> place holder is fail it picks random people in a fight.

lol...
I honestly feel like I'm damn near dead from alcohol poisoning when I'm in FATEs for example. FATEs and trying to go after quest mobs.. are my literal bane in this game due to the controller setup.

it takes some slight learning sure. but eventually muscle memory starts doing all the heavy thinking for you, and you'll be fine. Remember that holding R1/LB and then pressing any face button or dpad direction will swap to another set of skills. so you can set all of your abilities into different bar sets and hotswap between them with fantastic speed and efficiency once you're used to it.
Adding to the above, are you people even using the config options SE has given you? There are more than enough options for grouping, switching and filters in passive/active mode can be freely adjusted as well. You can even cycle through 4 filter presets (when enabled) via L1+OXロ△.
The rest is personal ability to remember which combination you mapped which skill and also coordination ability to know whether you are currently holding L2/R2 or not and keeping in mind what you are currently trying to do.
Personally, I got used to it pretty quickly and can now execute almost any skill without thinking/looking where it is on my crossbar. The system is working fine and is worlds ahead of having huge travelling distances between skills on the regular bars on 1.0

as was proven in the beta feedback thread regarding gamepads there is a huge percentage of people that dislike the controller setup for arr. there was such massive feedback on the issue during beta that they commented on the issue multiple times.
the setup used in arr is a love/hate relationship. you either love it or hate it. my ls is close to 50/50 supporting and disliking them. i don't see where bringing back the option to use the 1.0 setup for those that enjoyed that system would be a bad thing for the ones that enjoy the current system.

I personally love the crossbar, but what it could use is a third set of 8 (L2+R2) as at 50 with some classes it would be great to not have to switch cross bars to access skills you use on a regular basis. If I recall correct they will be adding in the future, just was not ready for launch.
As I recently switched from PS3 to PC I tied to use the keyboard (what I have used for every other MMO) and it was just strange and hard to get used to. I have started to use my ps3 controller on PC and enjoy everything again.
Point is, if you learn a game on one setup and switch to another it will be much harder to use the new system, but in time you can adjust. the best thing to do would be to level a new class on the new system to get used to it and adjust slowly (as you get more skills as you level) and then adjust for your level 50's.
