Have you ever worked for a large corporation? A deadline is a deadline, and it will be kept. No matter if things are not ready for primetime. They spent a ton of money advertising the launch date, they sure as hell were not going to let that go to waste. They figure the cost of handing out a little 'extra' free time to compensate people who could not play is a fair trade. Its greed and corporate stupidity at its finest.

Squenix's problems with spending way, way too much production money on advertising is a whole different conversation entirely (see: Tomb Raider), but games get pushed back all the time. Only the very very stubborn refuse to push back release dates, and the game ALWAYS suffers for it.

Example 1: Microsoft refused to push back the release date of Alan Wake. As a result, AW was released on the same day as Red Dead Redemption, so the game sold poorly and didn't net enough money for Microsoft to feel comfortable green lighting a sequel, even though the lack of sales was their own fault.

Example 2: Sony refused to push back the release date of Uncharted 3, even though the entire script had to be completely reworked because Graham McTavish's (Charlie Cutter) schedule involving The Hobbit interfered with mocap scheduling for the game. As a result, a series that prides itself on a strong narrative released a game with a plot that was slapped together, filled with holes, and plagued by horrible pacing.

Example 3: SquareEnix refused to push back the release date of FFXIV and therefore didn't have the server capacity to hold its player base ready, and massive butthurt broke out all over their forums.

I can understand your confusion since you're new to MMO's. However, most MMO launches are exactly like this. Rampant with problems that should have been ironed out in ßeta. If you compare A Realm Reborn's launch week to World of Warcraft's launch week then you'd actually see that things are not as bad as they could be. The fact that we're able to play at all without character wipes or rollbacks is something to be extremely thankful for. The fact that SE actually cares enough to give us any extra game time is something to be extremely thankful for.

I know you seasoned players think that everyone is being a whiny little baby and feeling entitled, but it really kind of sucks that I was so happy to finally be included in a game like this just to have the rug pulled out from under me.
It probably would be a bad idea to judge MMO launches on this game. This has to be the worst launch I have taken part in, mainly down to the fact that there is no queue and no auto logging out, basic forms of design that is present in all the other MMOs I have played.

Well I'll probably never get to play another MMO on the PlayStation so no judgment here.

How many MMO launches have you played through? This is actually going quite well in my experiences...

WoW which is a game known as one of the most successful MMOs of all time currently had a launch a million times worse than this, I'm not a SE Fan Boy by any means, but most people are whining and things are being worked on, and many modern MMO's do have some of these things in place --now-- but they didn't when they released. Even Aion and FFXI and even WoW's que system was broken on launch, and they didn't even have an auto AFK out on launch.

Don’t let this hinder you from the mmo world or this game in general.

Few mmo's launch great... I have been in a lot of launches and some good some bad. This is a bad launch but in my honest opinion it is not the worst I have been in.

Yes this is a pain in the asz and every time I get into a new game from launch and it goes south I swear to myself that I will wait two weeks before I play any new game…
I really should stick to that
…It gets better don’t let this sour your experience…

Lol, I probably won't let it sop me from playing MMO's but I may forget about this game. Not to sound rude, but I've nearly got every system and a lot of great games to play. If this keeps up any longer I'll totally forget about it.

I know what you mean. This is not a bad game at all after it has been redone. It's just getting into the game and actually playing that is the problem. Thankfully, we don't have to pay money to just sit and wait or more people would be upset. Maybe they will get their act together soon. I wouldn't give up on them just yet.
