Are black mages the current top dps class?

With all their insanely high damage spells and procs, 500 damage fire and 800 fire 3, doesn't look like any class can come close.

They're definitely a popular class. In the Duty Finder, I'll se a good six or seven Black Mage for every Bard / Dragoon / Monk (which I've seen one of, a Company mate).

BLM do high damage not high DPS (damage per sec).
Big numbers ain't everything.

BLM can be top dps IF there is a bard with requiem + the fight does not requires movement so that's almost never.

Black mages I group with do exceptionally well compared to most, possibly just means its an easier rotation. Id say very likely top aoe. Killed severely by movement

BLM has the highest burst damage, they are however not the best overall damage dealers.
Bards deal higher damage overall in fights and are constantly on top of damage meters at level 50.

BLM has the big numbers but the thing is their spells takes time to cast, by the time they finish a spell, the bard could of used 2-4 of his to deal the same or if not more damage than that of the BLM.

The BLM also get swiftcast for some nifty tricks. The BLM doesn't need to be buffed ; the bard just needs to be toned down a bit.

The BLM also has the awesome ability to cause major lag spikes to surrounding players with their AoE potentials. =P

BLM does not need to be buffed at all, they are quite on par with the Bard, Bard would usually surpass the BLM in damage but only by a small amount, it does not really matter much.

Bards do not need to be toned down imo, they do their job fine, which is to do constant DPS. They sacrifice having any CC ability in order to just deal damage.

What needs a major change/looking at are Summoners, they are classed as a DPS class yet they do hardly any damage, they need to be buffed to be able to even trail behind the BLM and BRD.

They certainly do a ton of damage in a sort of sustained burst. But then you hit the mana regen phase.

The responsiveness issue actually works in our favor in this case. I've found that I can have my spell cast at ~80%, move, and I will still cast. But yea - if i have to hard kite, like archer tanking, I don't have time to cast. On the upside I can swiftcast cure and I don't use TP so I can run
