How, in any way, is this post technical?I don't get how most of you feel this game is so amazing that the server issues are merely a road bump to an amazing experience. Firstly, I'm not quitting...yet, but a lot of my friends are slowly vanishing and I will eventually follow.
How, in any way, is this game revolutionary?
This is how I feel and is highly opinion based so take it for what it is worth.
How, in any way, is this game revolutionary?
Class/Job system:
The fact that you are able to switch from class to class just by switching gear is one thing that I find that other MMOs lack. It breaks the class box a bit, allowing you to go between a few of your favorite related classes and create a character that suits your personal preferences. Being that I have experienced a strict class MMO and also a completely open class MMO, I feel like it gives me enough wiggle room to be happy and yet doesn't make me feel completely restricted to one role. Also if I really wanted to join and play with my friend on the same server at x level, either of us can switch to either a new class together or go to a class that compliments each other in level and skill by just switching weapons instead of having to relog. Saves time and makes it completely easy for me so when they log off I can switch back to what I want to work on and move on with my day.
The Story
While most MMOs, I hit the point early on where I no longer care about the "fluff" or any of what the NPCs have to say, this one is the only one that continues to grab my attention and makes me want to continue in the game for the sake of the story line. Not only is there a main story line, but each class comes with a different story line as well as each starting city. After I finish raising the one character I am working on, I am looking forward to at least starting two more just so I can experience the stories in the other cities.
Every once in a while I also find myself wanting to know what the people around the quest giver has to say, which is something that Final Fantasy has always been able to give me. I actually CARE about what the NPCs have to tell me or sometimes I get curious about what the NPCs that don't even have a quest marker above their heads have to say. THAT in itself is what makes the game worth playing to me because I actually for once am enjoying what the writers have put into the game.
Though this is not revolutionary, one last reason that makes this game worth playing in my eyes is the nostalgia. I haven't played an FF game in years and this being the first one in ages that I have laid my hands one, being back in a world with chocobos and moogles makes me happy. Simple as that.
I will agree that there is really nothing new that they bring to fighting. I think that whole thing for me died with EQ2, as I love pvping and I felt like that game to me had the best battle system I could ever possibly dream of (outside of AoC. I have yet to discover if it is better, on the same level, or not as good as EQ2s as I have only hit level 18 so far). But to be honest, that's not the reason why I love this game so far. Every other field that other MMOs I feel have failed in, this has succeeded.
I can only hope that the game will get better as time goes on. I mean, hell, word is they are adding the golden saucer. For someone who quit after FF7. that's pretty exciting.
I hope that this game fills those spots for you as well and if not, then good luck finding one that does for you. Just to name some other ones that you may be interested in though some are not fleshed out, Secret World(s? I forget if there is an s. Supposedly the beginning levels they managed to make the beginner quests feel like nothing else out there in sense of, it is not your normal grind. Unfortunately, its been reported that as you head to end game, quests start to feel grindy again and lack the work that the beginning quests had.), Everquest Next, and Wildstar. (though I will not touch WoW with a stick. Already tried and absolutely hated it)

I have no problem with the 2.5 second cooldown between attacks. What i really have a problem with is the 60+ second cooldown when changing classes/jobs. I get that they don't want you to insta change between fights, but make it maybe 30 seconds. Also, not all skills go off of the 60 seconds. Some take 2-3 minutes to cooldown before first use when changing classes. Either make them all on the same cooldown for when changing classes, or make it so that the regular attacks are ready to use when changing classes while the higher cooldown ones have the same wait.
i would love to add my 2 cents to this discussion but i have yet to be able to play for any period of time for it to be valued enough despite trying since early access began :P
are you level 50 in all classes, work classes and Secondary Classes (EG, Paladin, Monk, etc) ? NO? then why complain about EXP?
Your main class is shown as a 30th level Gladiator.
So have you bothered picking up Paladin yet? Or did you even bother looking into the Secondary Classes?
You realize that EXP is needed for everything.. and Fates help Fishermen too - go up and do the collect quests as a fisherman and reap in the rewards on a non-combat based class.
Until you max every class, skill and basically have no life - EXP is always needed. By then they will make tertiary classes I bet too, like old fashioned Ninjas
on the other side of complaint list - have you got your house yet? NO? what are you doing man?! your 30th level, complaining about EXP and not getting EXP/Money and have no HOUSE yet?

Only 2 skills to use? hmmm.. let's see, as a DRG 41 (not necessarily in priority order - sorry, can't remember the name of the skills^^):
1. put slow and keep it refreshed
2. put DOT and keep it refreshed
3. place myself in the back of the mob and do my Disembowel 2 skills-combo to make the mob weak to piercing and keep it refreshed
4. place myself on the side of the mob and get my damage self buff and keep it refreshed
5. use Jump when available
6. use my 3-skills main combo
yes... I feel it quite boring with only those 2 skills to use
This is a re-skinned, generic MMO - True. It's a damn sight better than 1.0.
So FFXIV is NOT a kiddie game? Is that because they allow you and others to curse and spam racist remarks in open world chat? The rest of it is no different than any other "kiddie game"Okay. Let me help you out here. You dont' like it. Then simply don't play it. Because hey, you can always go back to that wonderful kiddie game WoW where there is no skill that needs to be involved and they hand out high end gear like pieces of chocolate to everyone. Enjoy. Now gtf off the technical support forums.
What exactly makes this "not" a kiddie game?
You know you can enable profanity filters and report filter evasion, right?
actually it's rated T in the USA for Language, Mild Blood, Sexual Themes, Use of Alcohol, and Violence
So by the ESRB - it's not a "Kiddie game"
In fact if the outfits would have shown a tad more cleavage or side-boob - it would have had to be rated M for mature for "sexual content" (or any extreme detail of already present parts, not naming anything directly of course)
