How to fix 1017: BOOT AFKS

My dearest Square Enix,

I have patiently defended you guys in the face of all of the server errors that have plagued us these last several days. I know it's launch and you guys have a lot of problems to sort out, but at this point, I think I speak for a large portion of the community when I say that we're tired of dueling 1017 for hours to be able to log in.

The cause of these problems, in my opinion - the fact that the game does not automatically boot players who are AFK.

I don't know that increasing data centers/world population/whatever is going to fix the problem in the long-run. Nobody logs out of the game because of the enormous difficulties they face getting back in, so you have thousands of AFKs sitting in sanctuaries around the world.

I am pleading with you guys - please implement an AFK kick immediately. The fact that this isn't already a thing is disconcerting, and I think it'll solve 90% of the problems that players are experiencing.

In FFXI, a game that's over 10 years old, people would go AFK all the time to sell things on their character. This didn't cripple the launch of FFXI. Put blame where it's do, Square-Enix for not having the server capacity. I paid for it. If I want to sit around for 12 hours a day AFK, I should better well be able to since I fucking paid for it.

You can't be bother to spend 5 seconds and 3 mouseclicks to log back in? Saying that "if I want to sit AFK for 12 hours because I pay for the game" is probably the most ridiculous thing I've heard anyway say about this issue.

Also, character stores are gone. Get over it. Server capacity increase is a temporary fix until more people create characters on that server.

I like Square Enix, I don't think they've wronged me. I'm merely trying to explain to those of you that have never played WoW or Rift (or anything that wasn't FFXI), that it's ridiculous to not want AFK kick. The common argument is "I pay for this game, why should it kick me!?" I don't really understand the complaint. You hit "login" again and voila, you're back in the game! Can you really not be bothered to do that if it means reducing server congestion? You sound like a self-entitled spoiled brat. Get over yourselves. Surely you realize that "I should be able to sit AFK and do nothing for 12 hours because I pay for the game" is an extremely feeble argument.

Honestly, I agree implementing an AFK kick mechanic should be done, but the fact remains...

The NA/EU servers have been plagued with difficult if almost ridiculous login issues. Whatever the issue may be, it's obvious AFK players are not helping the problem. What should have happened until a more permanent solution could be found was complete server resets, every morning. Simply because humans will be human and they will bypass any AFK mechanic implemented with marcro's or a rubberband and a toothpick like some crazy McGyver crap.

Yes, new servers, hardware and a whole slew of problem solving ideas are awaiting us come Wednesday. So, I hope if that doesn't fix your game's login problems, that you please at least do something concrete, like daily server resets.

another one of these threads? you're like the 9000th person to bitch "we need afk kick". I guarantee that when you get logged in, you stay logged in for as long as possible. don't try to lie and say otherwise because anyone who says that is kidding themselves.
