The real problems with the errors isn't really the error themselves, or the game.
The real problem here is how Square Enix (from now on, SE) THOUGHT things would happen.
Here's what it was on paper:
Players buy the game, buy game time, log in, play, log out and resume life.
Works great with Server size, amount of servers and all that, on paper.
In reality we know it happened quite differently. Insufficient server space isn't really the main cause here - because "adding 1,000,000 more slots" only means 1M more players will log in, just to congest it further.
The problem is that when players are "done playing" and going back to reality - for work, for school, for sleep, etc. They simply are not logging out. So slots remain used, and the server remains full.
Now I know how they are thinking, because of the mass players and all that they simply wouldn't be able to log in - and then reading forum posts about it probably scared them into the "stay logged in, or don't get to play!" mentality, but that only makes the problem WORSE.
So how to resolve this?
Well it's simple. Players need to log out when they are finished playing for the night/day/whatever. This would be going "back to basics" and common sense, but we know that's not gonna happen (for one, those still logged in probably don't come to forums)
So.... the addition of new servers on Sept 3. This will help NEW PLAYERS and players willing to START OVER only. Why? because already-full servers are going to remain nearly full to full. I know I don't want to "re-roll" and many others feel the same.
Details on other fixes has not been released, so we don't know if any actual Kicker program or World Transfer Service will be added as well... but that's what we need.
In addition to which, I believe a 1 character per account limit would help greatly, at least until the congestion is spread out more evenly.
So....
AFK Kicker (Text entry method to prove human)
World Transfer Service
Character Limit of 1 (Temporary)
These 3 things would pretty much eliminate the issue completely, given time to work.
I know I would World Transfer off the heavily over-populated server I am on, into another, especially because my friends all joined another due to inability to log into the planned server within the first week.
Those of you not logging out - shame on you.
