DPS Class Comparisions

Hey there!

I'm new to FFXIV, and I was wondering if someone could use a quick guide for the differences between DPS. It's pretty obvious the type of damage they do (as far as ranged/melee/dots/dd/etc.) I just can't find specifics about end-game roles like buffing/debuffing/crowd control.

For example:
Which classes bring buffs (and are these buffs highly desired?)

Which classes bring debuffs and how desirable are they?

Which classes are crowd-control oriented?

Honestly the monsters of dps that I have seen so far are pugilists. Beyond that sorry I can not answer more of your questions.

I think theres a wiki page that breaks all that down for u. Its a lil screwy...i remember when i first got on marauder durin beta and realized it wasnt DD but a tank. Woulda never guessed

When I looked at the wiki, I found it was out-of-date information. For example conj for a bard. That's no longer around, and I'm a bit skeptical about getting information from an out-of-date site.

Hmm im not sure which exactly been all over the place. Theres a few though..one is from the first version before this release...pretty sure theres a newer one around somewhere that was compiled off of mostly beta info for this version....could b wrong though

There's no real guide out yet, besides changing your job and etc, just roll the dice on where to put those attribute points on your favorite build..

Thanks for the replies. I have looked for a guide, so I figured there wasn't one out yet. I just know that if I beta'd a game and was coming to the new-player help forum to help new players, I could probably know enough about the classes to say, "The main CC of the game comes from... and Bard's can do x & y for buffing... monks have the debuffs like..."

I should've known if it wasn't about qq I can't roll a toon, I'd get little response or solid help.

mhh if you want a break down:

MNK - very consitent dmg output, some buffs
BLM/THM - high burst dmg, cc
SMN/ACN - dot dmg, debuff enemys, pet dmg + pet buffs
BRD/ARC - high burst dmg, debuff Enemeys, Buffs (always wanted i am sure)

i am not so sure about drg, but i feel like they are pure dds

Thanks for the general breakdown. =) This is what I was looking for. I really love the feel of the BRD, but I wasn't sure if I wanted to give BLM a chance due to CC. Someone laughed and said bard CC was better than BLM and it kinda left me confused.
