Botanist/Carpentry and what to gather?

Hi, I am a Dragoon leveling up Botanist and Carpentry (as that's how my weapons are made).

When I go to gather a node, I am given several options of what to pick from. What should I be gathering the most of? I see logs, branches, assorted items and crystals for the most part.

You need a bit of everything, but wood is the most common when looking at Carpentry. You can look at your crafting log and see what items to try and hunt for.

Wood as in logs, or wood as in branches? xD that's where I am confused. Usually in a game you get both logs and branches when you harvest a node, or the logs turn into branches, and they are required later for things. I gues it's all the same until 50 anyways, since I just need to make whatever will level me up, eh?

Look in your crafting log. That tells you what you need to gather.

Logs are used for making base wood and shafts so that is the primary reagent for spears. You also need to level Blacksmithing to create the spear heads and hilts. Branches are used mostly in Alchemy and for things like Conjurer wands.

Eh, as a carpenter so far, I have found a lot of recipes needing branches. Particularly fishing poles and bows.

The crafting log actually doesn't help in the slightest. It only shows crafting up to level 5 right now, since I haven't started carpentry. I am working on Botanist before I work on the actual craft.

In that case, lemme give you a tip: Farm logs like mad. They aren't really expensive to buy, but the sheer number of them you will need will definitely take a toll on your wallet. Also, get about half as many branches as you do logs, maybe a third as many. The problem with logs is you need about 3 (I think) to make 1 lumber, so you burn through logs really fast, especially in the beginning.
