I believe it is intentional. A wain is a very old word for a farm wagon or cart.
As unorigino stated, this is intentional.
Lots of archaic English words in this game. If anything, if you play FFXIV long enough your vocabulary will really expand.
For instance, the last name 'Wainwright' originally meant someone who built wagons for a living.
