Nah. I wasn't asking for best in slot upgrade, as I already knew weapon was obviously stronger, I asked how much of a loss it was in comparison and it's not enough to care about waiting a few more weeks when my dps will be well over 200 regardless and I hardly do coil for it to really matter. He gave me the info I needed(the stats) and I made my choice. Simple right?![]()
yup, simple enough![]()
I think it would be interesting to get some kind of measure of how much of a dps loss a certain reduction in stat score would be. Let's take my own stats as an example, and for the sake of argument say I do 300 dps on a dummy (with decent gear your dps should be around this area, but I have no idea of exact numbers). Assuming all things equal with your rotation, your dps will then become purely a function of your stat score, which we can determine using the stat weights.Nah. I wasn't asking for best in slot upgrade, as I already knew weapon was obviously stronger, I asked how much of a loss it was in comparison and it's not enough to care about waiting a few more weeks when my dps will be well over 200 regardless and I hardly do coil for it to really matter. So with 474 accuracy, I have 46 WD, 447 STR, 271 DET, 396 CRIT, 431 SS = 46*7.54 + 447*1 + 271*0.22 + 396*0.16 + 431*0.146 = 979.75 stat score
So a 979.75 score gives me 300 dps, meaning each point of stat score is equivalent to 0.306 dps. The loss of 8.174 stat score points (as in the case of taking the Wyrm chest piece over a +1 relic) would therefore equate to a loss of 2.5 dps.
This is obviously an extremely rough calculation (and assumes a linear increase/decrease in dps with stat score), but could also be refined by replacing gear to raise and lower your stat score and seeing how this affects your dummy dps. This could be a useful way in the future to get an idea of how your overall stat gain/loss will affect your eventual damage output.

1 str = 0.475 projected dummy DPS
Edit:
I wouldn't attempt to equate a total stat score with DPS; there are several "base" values that would skew the result in awkward ways. I would only use it for small deltas of stats.
Thats how i got my first EP ratingsgot the % difference each stat made then went from there.
I need to do another dummy test, i havent done a real one honestly since the ifrit weapon days.
BiS Coil Gearlist has been added to the end of the first post
Error 3102, 90000, 1017, 2002, 2/3 survivor
That's exactly what I've been trying to figure out... how much a boost in stat score will raise DPS -- then you have a metric for how worthwhile an upgrade would be versus the time or gil required to get it. I’m not talking about BiS gear, but for the incremental stuff, it’d be nice to have a sense if spending X gil or X tomes will have an effective difference before making the investment.
Obviously more is always better, but when cost is a factor you’d want to make smart decisions, too. So does anyone have a guess on the significance of 2 weighted stat points? 5? 10? Normally 3-5% is considered statistically significant, but I don’t know if that’s a concept that holds up in game.
Err, the concept of "statistically significant" doesn't really apply to what we're talking about.
In terms of the stat weights, you can (a) download the spreadsheet I linked, (b) add in the data for the darklight gear, (c) subtract the darklight value from the Myth values (per slot), (d) divide the result by the Myth cost, per slot.
Higher number = more efficient purchase for upgrading DL to Myth.
First off, thanks for providing that spreadsheet. I've used it a bunch since you posted it. But that wasn't the question at hand.
I did use statistically significant wrong, my apologies. What I was trying to say is:
- What's the value of an increase in 1 weighted stat point? If we're talking gear sets in the 600+ point range, is 1 point really an effect of 1/600th?
- At what stat point increase does an investment in time/gil/tombes show meaningful results? I realize this is subjective, but I'm sure no one would spend 1 million gil for a .5 increase if that doesn't make any real difference to your DPS. Should one look for a boost of x% to consider something worthwhile?
Again, I realize more is always better, but when balancing that against a cost, it is not always smart. Just trying to wrap my head around when stats will make a real difference versus being an ineffective upgrade.
