I'm not sure if this helps people, but I had started out having trouble with my positional, especially on smaller models and on hound lights.

There is a little arrow that indicates front-facing which appears on every targeted mob, including ones that float. For grounded mobs you can see a broken ring, the broken area is their backside. Typically at the end of my prae runs I have tons of trouble getting back facing for the last boss because he's so tiny, he spins, and there are special effects so I've started really relying on those arrows as a guide.
