Nonononono, swing to where the sphere spawns and keep attacking and sneak that last GCD in before the boss gets out of reach, tab over to sphere continue rotation.I'll record next clear. Huge dps loss is phase transitions, I stop attacking kind of early so I don't die to the middle aoe when adds come out and when we kill the sphere, the egg is on the other side. If our jump animation goes through the middle section where kaliya is, do we die? I never tried it hehe
Did 515 this week with current gear, i120 + Long Ginus, no melded gear.

I understand how this works on a dummy, and yes it does increase dps however so slightly, but in an actually fight where there are temporary dps pauses, switching to adds etc. does it really still hold true or should we just wait until FT? this will obviously be extremely circumstantial, but are there any general rules ppl follow?
Also on a side note, i have taken to holding my 2nd LS until my FT + BFB because around this time my ninja is putting up trick attack
"The Dragoons Ascent: Knights of Ebon Mail" sounds cool. Or something about how we're taming those bloody Dragons everyone and their grandmother is gunna have in the expansion.
It still holds true no matter what. You should be quick with the add transitions, that's what Spineshatter Dive, Dragonfire Dive and Elusive Jump are for. But other then that, it all comes down to your own intuitive playing the Job, as well as the current situation you're in. There are times were you're absolutely better off restarting from scratch rather than just continuing trying to manage your cooldowns. Breaks like that can mess-up cooldown management and if you're not careful may end-up with you having a DPS loss in the long run. Other times, you may have to adjust your cooldowns to suit your party match-up to have an increase of DPS - like holding BFB + LS so it's timed with your Ninja's TA.I understand how this works on a dummy, and yes it does increase dps however so slightly, but in an actually fight where there are temporary dps pauses, switching to adds etc. does it really still hold true or should we just wait until FT? this will obviously be extremely circumstantial, but are there any general rules ppl follow?

The next part is knowning when to pop your cooldowns. If you're about to transition into a Phase Change and there's a "pause" during that transition, then you should not be using cooldowns leading up to it. That way you all of your CDs are back up so can restart your burst from scratch the second the new Phase starts.
The only person who can really answer a question that broad is yourself I'm afraid.

How much dps should i be doing with my current gear? I currently get around 485 with party buff. Is that acceptable?

You and I are similarly geared. You're inline with what you should be pulling for your gear. With food, you should see yourself creeping to just under 500.

Just like tanks have to prime up their bigger threat holding moves, as a DPS you should prep up the correct rotation for an ADD depending on the situation. Most of the times I time it up right to have the first attack in my rotation as soon as I switch to a new target to be Disembowel which immediately helps my bard and gets the DOTS up ASAP.

To excel at dragoon, that sort of forward planning is important due to how long it takes to finish your combo.
If you're just winging it, though, Phlebotomize is no slouch....
hmmm, well my biggest question is when the rotation gets reset due to switching to an add to apply the debuffs. ive already adpoted a kinda of idea of what to do in these sitations in my head. mostly just curious how others have changed/adapted the use of LS if you are restarting combo, the point of alternating between CT + FT is that it lines up perfectly, but if an add switch causes you to do LS with CT twice in a row, it wont be a dps gain anymore

It'll still be a PPS gain over holding it 7.4s for Full Thrust.
