Little bit off-topic, but only arguably... What DPS check are you guys struggling with? If you aren't making it to the final phase that's not a DPS check, that's a strategy miscalculation or mechanic failure. If you are getting 2 ghosts just kill 2 ghosts, or if you are mage LBing the ghost and nael, try just burning the ghost and melee LBing nael to get to that sweet sweet 47% a little faster...

380 is fine, which would be 345 before Echo. I have seen a lot of DRGs come through my static as temp replacements or PUGs, the good ones were 375+ pre-echo, the bad ones were 290 pre-echo, so you are a little above average but definitely missing off of top tier dps.

You don't sacrifice mobility hardly at all, certainly not anymore than by target-locking. Give it an honest try and I doubt anyone would go back to target locking, I certainly won't.
I absolutely hated training myself to learn how to effectively use the auto lock function, but now that I'm used to it, I've learned to "like" it. I Absolutely hate using standard controls, but only because it's unfamiliar to me. I'll just have to spend some time using it, and maybe I'll grow to like it. I agree that auto lock feels real clunky. I migrated to NIN after countless deaths to flames

Dunno why that message posted lol but I transitioned to ninja after countless wipes to 11+ stacks on flames or rebirth. Auto lock and switching to goad someone has to to be the clunkiest thing ever!

I use a <mo> macro for goad. I just mouseover my goad target in the pt list and hit it and never have to untarget the boss/adds.

Hey guys, i'm from the german forum, may my english isn't the best ^^

my main is healer, but i really like to play my dragoon. And i've learned a lot now from the first post, thx for this detailed guide
my question is now, how much determination is 1 strength? is it possible to calculate that or something?
and is det to dex, or det to mind always the same value?

Dex means a big load of nothing for dragoon. Anyway, the stat values for up to 2.4 were:

    Weapon Damage: 8.732
    Strength: 1
    Determination: .325
    Crit: 0.204
    Skill Speed: .178

I do not know if any of those changed at all with the new gear from 2.4 or not. If they did change then it would only be very slight and you can still use that as a base guideline.

    1/0.325 = 3.077 det
So one STR is roughly 3 DET.

The stat weights vary per job, on bard DET is worth something like 0.318 DEX, whm/sch DET is the same as drg at 0.325, for Monk det is 0.332. The assumed weight for ninja is currently the same as monk but I think it's unconfirmed, not sure.

We were struggling with the golems before echo. We were killing the last golem just as the second wave of rocks was starting. So no time to pack and place them correctly. Now with echo, we have a small marging which is fine. But I mostly wonder about the DPS during P4 which is the trus DPS check (if I understood correctly). So because every little increase in DPS will be important, I came here to find if and how I could improve mine to help the team.

Regarding strategy, our only problem now is to place properly the second wave of rock. We are packing altogether and start running aroud the arena with sprint when the first sign pop on our heads. The good point is that we do not need to think, just run. The bad point is that if one player fail to start at the good time (or have a lag), then it's the wipe... We will try to split in 3 positions and then only players with the sign will move. I'm sure it will be easier, but not everyone agree in the team... So we'll see who is right ^^.

I mean the target-lock is OK for most things, what really turned me off on it is t8, and what I noticed is it happens on larger targets as well. Unless I totally re-arranged my HUD layout there was no way for me to actually see my character on fights like t8 because of the narrow camera angle from target-lock. Not a big deal except you need to see your character to know if you're at the flank or rear or whatever, so once I started messing with the standard controls, yea it's a little awkward at first but so much better than what I experienced with target-lock. But I digress..

I'm still working on t9 clear myself, what I've found helpful is to have areas loosely assigned for people to start spreading out right as the 3rd golem is down, then it's just a matter of paying attention to your own marker and the 2 people on either side of you, dodging and placing them accordingly, popping in and out of the middle area to catch aoe heals..

I remember the days we used to sprint along the outside for meteors just to get to the next phase for practice lol good times.

This is how our group would do the 2nd set of meteors. We would split into 2 light parties at A and B. When the marker appears over someone they stay everyone else moves in a zigzag to the next location staying together and both groups moving clockwise or counterclockwise whichever you prefer. For reference the ideal 2nd spot is just behind a little blue triangle you can see on the floor in the fight. Keep in mind the person who is behind may have to skip a zig and just zag to the 3rd spot. :P I have found that doing it this way can assure that even if meteors are heavy on one side no one will get bunched up or place a meteor incorrectly. After all 6 come out you can safely place the golems on the middle circles in the room.
Sorry for the terrible paint interpretation.
