I see mentioned DATA CENTER capacity yes but how does that help SERVER CAPACITY which is why we are all getting 1017 and 2002 or do you think people will go well sod the last 2 weeks of work let's start ALL OVER AGAIN.
Perhaps we should wait and see what they do instead of jumping down everyones throats and making assumptions.. Just saying is all.
I was around for the start of the MMO era and I feel the complete opposite, sorry. Calling someone a spiteful subhuman for not liking your concept is kind of the pot calling the kettle black. I have never even heard of the word "Toon" until the end of Everquest..
What is a realm?

Ironically you quitting and getting more people to quit will actually help solve the problem quicker, so I don't think anyone will mind you leaving.

Again just to make sure it's clear -[Details]
- Addition of new Worlds
- Implementation of countermeasures to handle the influx of concurrent user counts as a result of split processing the duty finder
- Address several known issues
Address several known issues
Sorry folks. After playing online games since the late 80s - I've used characters, avatars, and toons and played on shards, realms, and worlds.
I guess I'm just not hip to what the FFXIV Forum troll accepted colloquialisms are.
Old dog, new tricks and all.
Time travel would have been cool. Sadly, while I love Fezzes and Bow ties, I've got to admit that I used things like 300 and 1200 baud modems, Sprintnet, and telnet instead of Sonic Screwdrivers, Phone Boxes, Phone Booths, or Skynet.
Really? That doesn't change the fact that the Internet wasn't commercialize until 1995 and the first thing to be considered a true MMO was about 1998
I can't imagine what all those years spent playing games with other players in MUDs, ASCII and text based games on bbs systems, or Neverwinter Nights would be considered.
They were massive worlds, multiplayer, and online.
That would be the definition of MMO. Where you're coming up with a definition for what is and isn't a "True" MMO is beyond me. If you're trying to say that the genre started with a graphical MMO, you're still off by a few years, with Meridian 59 and Ultima Online hitting in 95 and 96, and Everquest blowing the market wide open in '99.
But hey. I only know what I was doing... which was gaming online with lots of other players in vibrant worlds for about a decade before you claim it was possible.

These details may come in a Producer's Letter soon. SE knows that existing worlds are beyond capacity and that simply adding more won't fix that. Maybe they're hoping some players will reroll, but surely that won't be enough.
SE has done organized world transfers twice for FFXIV already (once to merge worlds, once to cross data centers). Plus FFXI held new world emigration applications when it was growing, nearly 10 years ago. I'm not sure how SE handle it this time, so soon after launch, but this problem has also split friends, guilds and family members across worlds and I would like to see a solution that lets them play together as they intended.
'Tis true. I was also using the worldwide network of DARPA back in the late '80s. Mostly email and USENET (worldwide forums), but there were quite a few multiplayer games to keep people entertained. Small world. Even smaller if you knew things called ngp and ccwf.
Add:
Be Nice. Success means FF14 will see a lot of "toon", "realm", "rez", etc. Fear not. All will be assimilated eventually. (^_–) ☆
(Or vice-versa...)

It would be good to get clarification on this, so maybe rather than argue, we all post/like this thread here to alert the devs?
It's a concern for me too. I spent most of Sunday trying to get in to my world with no success until late at night, I fear new servers won't help me.
I'm assuming that they'll be fixing the log in issues, but full is full, right? I thought that by going over 5000 logins they'll destabilize the worlds.
A free (planned and managed) server move for those that choose it could be a good fix.
Devs?!?? Let us know.
