Name change?

I see that they will be offering world transfer services soon which is great, though no word of a name change that I can see.

What are the rules on duplicate names? I noticed someone else on my world that had the same last name...so I'm wondering if it only counts for the first name? Do both names have to be identical, or is there no restriction at all and you can have two people with identical names?

I've seen many duplicate first or last names on my server. But I would imagine there would be a conflict if more than one person had the same first and last name. Not to mention it would be annoying with a hundred people named "Cloud Strife" running around.

In FFXI you had to change your name upon login after changing servers if that name was already in use on that server. I would guess a similar system would be in place in FFXIV.

It's already annoying that hundred of people are walking around Surname'd as Strife/Lockheart.
They should literally give an error when trying to make your last name Strife/Lockheart.

In regards to the OP, though. I'm all for name changes being made available in the future via the mog station.

I barely see any Strifes, a bunch of Lockhearts though.
But none of those compares even close to the surnames Lionheart and Leonheart. I'm starting to think that every other person is named Lionheart on our server.

Everybody and their mother has the last name 'Highwind'. There seems to be an endless family of Highwinds on Behemoth.

I think I've seen more Game of Thrones names (Lannister, Targaryen, Stark, Snow) than Final Fantasy related ones.

Seen many people first named "Naruto" though.
