    A Beginner's Perspective

Does anyone else think it sucks that I paid $40 for a game and often wait for more than 20 minutes to sign in before being able to play? Or that of the 5 friends I have in this game we have all had to be on different servers because as each of us created characters the other's servers were locked down? As a beginner I wonder why so many people are allowed to leave their characters in the server while they themselves are afk in their beds, school etc? As much fun as the game is, and it is awesome when I can play it, I just don't think I am willing to pay for a subscription to something I can't use at my discretion. The biggest detractor to me as a mmo noob is that I can't even play with the friends that I have spent the last 3 years with. An awesome game is totally being ruined by trolls that never sign out and designers that can't seem to grasp the concept that friends want to play with each other. I know this is a rant, but what other beginners out there are feeling the same way?

While i am not a beginner. (ive been part of MMO's ever since the 2D Ultima Online days.), I do understand how frustrating it can be. Especially when the launches are this bad (though admittingly, its nowhere near as bad as the original FFXIV was).

The silver lining though, is that unlike the First launch of FFXIV, FFXIV: ARR is WORTH going threw the early growing pains for. The game itself sofar as ive been able to play it myself, 'feels' about 10x better than the first one. It even LOOKS about 10x better.

As for not being able to play with friends. There's two ways to look at this, and it depends on what the owners decide to do when they add in those new worlds on Wednesday.

The 'BEST' option they can chose, is to open up the new servers, but NOT allow any new characters to be made on them at first. Instead, let people opt to TRANSFER their current characters to those new servers. This will both lower the total populations on ALL of the other servers at one time, as well as give people such as yourself who have friends that are scattered across 5+ servers the chance to get onto the same one.

The not-so-best option they can chose, is to simply add in 6 or 8 new worlds, and let people have a Free-For-All to get into them. What this means for you and your friends, is that you will have to make use of the "Save character data" that you 'hopefully' clicked when making your characters, and join the rush to create new characters on the new world of your collective choice, and speeding threw the character creation process by using that saved Character data.

Though, as i said, this is coming from what could be considered a MMO 'vet'.

And why the hell do they put a limit on the SIZE of posts at 1000 characters?.... their the ONLY game forum i know of in all my years of playing that has done this.

All it does is force us to spam replies rather than making 1 concise one.

While it's a bit silly restriction (although a bit understandable as some people would otherwise post copies of Chicago phone books, bibles or The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy) there is an easy workaround for that - simply post first part under the limit, then hit edit and add the rest of the text - solved ...
