My Weekend with FFXIV

Hello Everybody,

This is my first post on FFXIV forums. I love MMOs, played them since the early days, got hooked. So I have seen my fair share of launches (WoW, Lineage 1/2, Aion, Ragnarok 1/2). Usually I do not mind the issues, I understand developers sometimes come across issues and I know that they try their best to try and fix them.

I started FFXIV during the open beta phase from Aug. 17-19, being a long time FF fan I fell in love with the game immediately. It has been a long time since I felt like I've played a game that I feel I truly enjoyed again; playing so many games for so many years have left me saturated. So my excitement was great when I came across this game and I opted to buy the collectors edition and recommended this game to a couple of friends so we can all play together.

Early Access comes along, my friends and I have a LAN party at my place (old school I know), slight connection issues but overall it was fine. Little did I know the official launch would become a little bit of a nightmare; plagued with the dreaded errors numerous users have been posting on forums, but I still had faith in Square Enix to fix the issues. My belief came from the high quality of FF games to date so I waited and kept my faith.

This past weekend came along, same as the early access weekend I invited my friends over for a LAN party and this was when the nightmare truly started. Saturday @ 4PM my friends came over and setup their computers, one used my PS3 (already setup for GF). I was lucky to be logged in within minutes and stayed logged in for the rest of the evening. What my friends had to do for the next 2 hours was pretty sad to watch. They had to play a game that most users on this forum played for the same amount if not long period of time: the FF14 login game. I know I am not the first nor the last to bring this issue up but it is just sad. Although it was awesome to be able to catchup to my friends while they tried to login, seeing their desperate yet hopeless faces trying to login for hours on end is not a fate that should be brought upon to anyone.

My point is, this is an awesome game, the amount of content is amazing and the graphics are insane but the server issues will kill the player base. It has been a full week since launch, server issues have not been fixed nor have character creation. I thank you Square Enix for apologizing and promising us things but I hope that they actually will fix issues such as server capacity and character creation. I'm sure others will agree with me on this; The game is awesome, don't screw yourself over with stupid technical issues that should take less than a week to solve in 2013. I am sick of playing the login game every night, I just want to play the game. Thank you for your time.

Finally someone not on a "toxic" rant! I'm practically the same as you except I played FFXI for about 7 years. I believe Friday all this will be fixed if I read the forums right. Good luck in your endeavors
