    What was this game going to be?

    I was running around Thanalan the other day headed out of town towards camps to turn in some local leves. On my way to Camp Bluefog, I decided to run there in foot to enjoy the scenery. I had to switch from my 35thm to my 48alc to avoid getting killed from the buzzards, and diremites.

    Thats when I got thinking about this games original intent and where it might have gone. The games system was originally designed for the crafting classes to be in combat alongside the others,from what I understand. I think that the physical levels were supposed to be a lot harder to level up and would have been a true discription of your actual level, where each job you would rank up in skill with that particular tool/weapon. This means if you were level 50 running around regardless of your skill with whatever tool you had equiped you wouldnt have to worry about getting one shotted.

    Unfortuantely Tanakas vision was cut short from being forced to release an unfinished product. The physical levels had to be nerfed which caused the stat points to be nerfed which led the entire system to be unaffective. I think this was done so that any class could effectivily participate in the main story line.

    I just started to see the revolutionary system Tanaka was envisioning and it seemed really cool. Im sad that the circumstances lead to what happened but, it is what it is and we must move on.

    I am still looking forward to what the future holds. I see a real dedication and desire to make a FUN game from Yoshi-P. I must admit that sometimes the forum trolls can get me down but I've been trying to avoid those posts. Because in the end all that matters is "am I having fun in Eorzea" and my answer is YES. Yoshi-P has imo been delivering and imo will keep delivering.

    I don't really have a point to this post, I was just running around thinking about it and felt like posting it. Please don't flame or hate or troll on my post. Love ya guys!!

    Firstly, crafters were not meant to fight in combat. Everyone going around saying that lately don't know what they're talking about as nobody from SE ever said anything about crafters fighting except in response to demands by players pre-release and even then they were only considering it.

    I think the Physical level system was supposed to work as a buffer, true. I think Physical level was supposed to be what mattered and I think Rank was supposed to be nothing more than a way for player's to get skills.

    In the end, they needed to make compromises though because that system didn't really work for a game that is utterly dependant on endless grind.

    I want Tanaka version i post this on other topic i think yoshi-p just gain players trust by making his little letters and crossing everything tanaka did. everything so far is not even his 100% idea he just getting what tanaka left over and making it his own.

    What happen to linkshell companies? are we still getting our linkshell building and airship or is that out of the question now yoshi?

    what are we calling it dungeon and raids? this is not WoW this is Final fantasy you could have call it something else stop trying to be like wow. At the end wow players would come join ffxiv leave and go back to wow or blizzard next gen mmo which is coming out in 2-3years.

    why are you even changing Hamlet Defense? it was a great idea they was no need to remake it at all.

    Sadly yoshi-p does not have my trust on him making this game a real final fantasy game when he making this into a wow clone by calling it dungeon and raids. don't even care if wow players would make ffxiv money there just end up quiting and returning to wow when they do a awesome patch. I play rift for 3 days when they had it free last week and half of them talking in /trade saying i'm going playing this game too wow new patch come out then am out for good.

    So sadly i want tanaka version i look at every interview and that the reason i got it.

    Crafters were supposed to battle, in the Tanaka interviews pre release they talked about how crafters would have abilities needed in battle, an alchemists might be needed to dissolve a gold mob. This was talked about, it was scrapped. So you can't say "crafters were NEVER supposed to be in battle"

    Iwao: Blacksmiths are Disciples of the Hand who use metals to create and repair weapons and armor. Miners are Disciples of the Land who dig up ore. These classes will have very limited battle-related abilities, but may receive other things to compensate. For example, a Blacksmith may get an ability that enfeebles a gold-based enemy or one that increases the chances of having treasure drop.

    Thats an interview with some of the Devs in March 2010 and you can see that they direction the game was taking has changed dramatically from then its a shame really as it sounded really cool. Also even on the Official FFXIV site after release the profile for Miner said it had Treasure Hunter and Steal as some of it's abilities until they finally took it down.

    Oh and Gifthorse I do think you are right about physical level, I believe that was supposed to be the level that mattered as far as how much you could hit for and damage you took then the class ranks are just for getting new abilities. If it worked like that THEN the armoury system would have been a lot more interesting and would have made a lot more sense allowing you to truly build your own character. What we have now is some mashup in between that just doesn't work right. It's neither proper Jobs or fully capable of making your own, just hope they decide which way they are going and do it right this time.

    You got Tanaka's version, if they keep it you'll be the only one playing the game.

    It was said that blacksmiths might be able to spot weaknesses in metal mobs, I think.

    But even so, how exactly is that fighting? That's a very situational role and obviously thrown in as an afterthought. The only combat centered around crafters is the combat featured in the main scenario quest.

    Many of us actually bothered to stay because we were looking forward to Player-run Companies and ships.

    Many people bought the game because we wanted active combat where position mattered (not auto-attack).

    If Tanaka's vision was realised, Zanaku wouldn't be the only one playing. Conversely, if Yoshi's vision is realised, god help us all. Yoshi is systematically destroying the potential of FFXIV. There is nothing to look forward to anymore at all. Not even the slightest bit.

    Only reason I still play is because I am curious to see if SE will fail as hard as I think they will under Yoshi's leadership. Lemmings.

    I think that under there list of 100 ideas that never came to fruition that crafter's having "battle specific" abilities was being played with. Not saying its smart or that it would of made it to the game, they did have that idea running around in there head though.

    Did Tanaka ever really give us fleshed out details of what Hamlet Defense was going to be about? I remember him talking about it some, but I don't recall him going into detail. So, we don't truly know what Tanaka had planned out for it or other things that haven't seen the light of day yet. If I have missed an interview, please tell me, because I know I'm not perfect lol.

    I'm just going to wait and see what Yoshida is going to do with this game. I hope that they really look at what was planned and use it, but still put their own twist on it. I'm not expecting or asking them to do what Tanaka was going to do. For better or worse, we have different people on the helm of this game. They need to do what they feel is right for the game, but should also take in our thoughts, and not to mention Tanaka's plans.
